📍Bayeux, Normandy, France
I stepped straight into a real-life Beauty and the Beast moment in Bayeux 🥀✨

This medieval town is absolutely adorable. It’s small, but don’t let that fool you—there’s lots to see. Every street feels like a postcard, with beautiful architecture that’s exactly what you picture when you think of a historic French village! 🇫🇷

And the FOOD… Easily some of the best we’ve had on this trip. Cozy cafés, incredible restaurants, and the most amazing boulangeries and pâtisseries around every corner.

There’s also a deeper side here, with the D-Day Museum and memorial sites that really ground you in the history of this region—powerful and important to experience.

Right in the center of town is the stunning Bayeux Cathedral—a breathtaking Gothic church dating back to the 11th century, with soaring spires and beautiful stained glass. It truly anchors the town and adds to the magical skyline.

The shops here are so unique; little boutiques and artisan finds you won’t see anywhere else.

We’re staying at Hotel Le Lion D’Or, right in the middle of everything. The location is perfect, the breakfast is really good, and our room is incredible—separate bedroom, large bathroom with a shower and clawfoot tub, a living room with a pull-out couch, and views of the courtyard, rooftops, and cathedral spires.

Bayeux completely surprised me in the best way 🤍

Here's the scoop on visiting cathedral of Notre Dame, post re-open... here are some tips that I hope will help make tour trip to Notre Dame smoother:
1) it is FREE to visit and any site telling you otherwise is trying to scam you. That does not include any guidance though. So if you'd like a guided tour, those need to be arranged. But you're paying for the guide, not entrance to the Cathedral.
2) There are two lines. One for online reservations and one for walk-ups. You can make a reservation like a week out or so on the Cathedral's website. But if you can't get one, don't worry, you can walk up. There was little to no wait at the online entrance. The walk up line looked super intimidating. We kept looking for the end of the line and were like wow- this is going to take forever. But despite the length of the line, it was only 35 mins or so.
3) You can light candles inside. They do take cash or card.
4) There is a charge to go into the Sacristy. I think it was worth it. ($12/adult) There were some amazing treasures in there!

Addressing the airport drama... or lack thereof! We arrived at terminal A East a little earlier than usual and had a surprisingly smooth experience. Without precheck, bag drop took around 5 minutes and security lines were longer than usual but not chaotic - 15 minutes with precheck and 30 minutes without. ICE personnel were present and helpful. One thing to note: the airport website's security wait times are a bit inaccurate, so plan accordingly. Hope this helps!

Day Two | Galápagos Expedition – Rabida & Santiago Islands

While the early hikers spotted flamingos (including a rare white baby flamingo 🤍), I opted for a slower start, skipping the hike for a peaceful fitness class instead. It was relaxing, grounding, and the red berry smoothie afterward was chef’s kiss.

Next up: snorkeling off Rabida Island, famous for its red sand beaches. The underwater world did not disappoint—black tip reef sharks, massive schools of fish, two kinds of starfish, long skinny fish, and bright angel fish weaving through it all.

Later, we landed on the black sand beaches of Santiago Island, where we spent a laid-back afternoon soaking it all in. With our naturalist guiding us, we learned about the island’s wildlife and daily life in Ecuador while watching marine iguanas, pelicans, ghost crabs, Sally Lightfoot crabs, yellow warblers, wandering tattler birds, and sea lions… including a baby sea lion! 🦭

Seeing red sand and black sand beaches in the same day was amazing. (✅ bucket list!!!) The sunset on the ride back to the National Geographic Gemini was the perfect quiet ending before dinner.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it!!!

Day 1 in the Galápagos… and I’m already speechless. 🐢🌊

We flew from Quito to Baltra Island, and the adventure started immediately. The moment we stepped off the plane, wildlife was everywhere—like the islands were personally welcoming us. Our guides met us and helped us navigate this incredible first glimpse of paradise.

Giant lizards, birds overhead, and sea lions lounging around greeted us as we stepped off the transfer bus and onto a small craft that brought us to our home for the week: National Geographic Gemini 🚢💙

Once onboard, we checked into our ocean-view stateroom—twin beds, a large window, desk with a cozy seating area, two closets (yes!), and space under the beds for luggage. Thoughtfully designed and so comfortable.

Lunch was a gourmet buffet that completely exceeded expectations—fresh tuna, chicken, pork, and delicious Ecuadorian flavors. Afterward, we had our expedition briefing and then… straight into adventure.

Our first excursion: Black Turtle Cove 🖤🐢
We boarded zodiacs right off the stern of the ship with a seriously skilled navigator and an incredibly knowledgeable naturalist. Gliding through the mangroves, life was everywhere—blue-footed bo***es, herons, mockingbirds, pelicans, sea turtles, black-tip reef sharks, spotted eagle rays, and even a parrotfish. Almost surreal.

As the sun began to set, we headed back to the ship to get ready for dinner, hearts full and bucket lists already being checked off.

What an incredible first day—from the very first moment. Grateful for yesterday, amazed by this journey, and so excited to see what today brings. 🌅✨
National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions has been amazing.

Wrapping up a year I’m super grateful for ✨
My first year in this chapter of my career, unforgettable family milestones, passport stamps, spontaneous trips, big emotions, and so many moments that reminded me how full life can be.

I learned, I grew, I traveled, I showed up even when it felt uncomfortable—and I’m so thankful for every lesson and memory along the way. 🌍🤍

Here’s to new adventures, deeper connections, and seeing where 2026 takes me next.
