The El Presidio Historic District is a residential neighborhood containing adobe and brick buildings in the Spanish-Mexican, Anglo-American and Eclectic architectural styles. Named for the Spanish-built Presidio de San Augustín del Tucson (1775), El Presidio is one of the nation's oldest inhabited sites. The district is on the site of a prehistoric Hohokam Indian site (c. 700-900 A.D.) and the original presidio (fort). The El Presidio Historic District reflects Tucson's development from an 18th-century walled compound to its emergence as a major 20th-century mercantile center.

Coronado Cave Az

Coronado Cave became part of Coronado National Memorial in 1978, when the park expanded its boundaries. The cave may have been used by humans as a shelter and hideout by middle archaic people (up to 8000 years ago) and more recently by the Chiricahua Apache and other Apache peoples, Mexican and European miners, and settlers (however, no archaeological evidence remains in the cave today). The cave is now one of the few open, undeveloped caves in southern Arizona. Coronado Cave is a large cavern 600 feet long and in most places about 70 feet wide.

Fool Hollow Lake Az
The park along the lake, located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, opened in 1994 as a result of cooperation between the U.S. Forest Service, Arizona State Parks, Arizona Game and Fish and the city of Show Low in partnership with Arizona Public Service and McCarty Construction Company. Today, visitors can camp among the tall pines and hike along the lake at a cool 6,300 feet in elevation. Canyon Diablo Az.

Legend says there’s about $125,000 in gold, silver and coins taken from a stage coach in 1881 somewhere upon a mountain ledge overhanging the city of Flagstaff.

The loot was hidden in two mailbags, but the disguise didn’t fool bandits who held up the Canyon Diablo to Flagstaff Wells Fargo Stage on May 10, 1881. The mailbag trick was used for money being shipped from an Albuquerque bank to a San Francisco bank. A U.S. Cavalry unit later killed all five suspected bandits near Veit Spring, but they didn’t have the loot. In 1913, “Short” Jimmy McGuire produced some of the stolen coins, but after four drinks at Black’s Saloon in Flagstaff, he died of a heart attack. His last words did not reveal where the rest of the treasure was, and it’s being searched for to this very day. This area has so much to offer from Ghost town,Canyon Diablo Meteorite and some great history! THERE IS SOME GOLD IN THEM HILLS.

Empire Ranch AZ Tour

30 min outside of Tucson
Great camping and great history!
between 1879 and 1928. During this time period the ranch grew from the original 160 acres purchased by Walter Lennox Vail and Herbert R. Hislop in 1876 to over 100,000 acres. The discovery of silver deposits on the northern pastures of the Empire Ranch in 1879 led to the development and operation of the Total Wreck Mine. Between 1881 and 1887 the mine produced over $500,000 in revenue that allowed for the rapid expansion of the Empire Ranch through the purchase of more land, cattle, and other ranch improvements.
Many well-known western movies and TV series were filmed on or near the Empire Ranch. They include

3:10 to Yuma,
A Star Is Born,
Another Man, Another Chance,
Bonanza, )
Broken Lance,
Desperado,
Duel In the Sun,
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral,
Gunman’s Walk,

Dead Horse Ranch State Park AZ.

Another fine example of the beautiful State Parks in our country. Big wide open sites, some with nice shade. Pull through and back-in sites. Water and electric hookups. Beautiful walking trails and ponds. Lots of people bird watching here. Decent cell service, which was a little surprising. Nearby shopping, gas, restaurants, etc.

The story of the park's name begins with the Ireys family, who came to Arizona from Minnesota looking for a ranch to buy in the late 1940s. At one of the ranches they discovered a large dead horse lying by the road. After two days of viewing ranches, Dad Ireys asked the kids which ranch they liked the best. The kids said, “the one with the dead horse, dad!” The Ireys family chose the name Dead Horse Ranch and later, in 1973, when Arizona State Parks acquired the park, the Ireys made retaining the name a condition of sale.
