Six days. 683 miles. Zero pavement plans. 🏍️💨

We just put the all-new BMW R 12 G/S through its paces on a brand-new backcountry route from Calgary, AB to Kelowna, BC—gravel, double-track, single-track, and everything in between.

Powered by BMW’s 1170cc air/oil-cooled boxer twin (109 hp, 115 Nm), the R 12 G/S paired classic GS DNA with real off-road chops on some of the most dramatic terrain Canada has to offer.

Full story dropping soon in RoadRUNNER magazine. 📖

Find Countryside in the City Along the Lizard’s Tail 🦎

The Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee is one of the most famous motorcycling roads in the country, if not the entire world. In Texas, however, you’ll find the whipping tail of a more unassuming reptile that is no less enjoyable to ride.

The Lizard’s Tail is a collection of roads near Fort Worth, skirting the shoreline of Lake Worth. Running along the lake for some 12 miles, the meat and potatoes of the route consist of (from north to south) Watercress Dr, Silver Creek Rd, and Heron Dr.

Just wrapped an epic trip through the Black Hills of South Dakota—if you've never been, we highly recommend it. 🏍️

You could easily fill a week with things to do, on and off the road: Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, the classic curves of Needles Highway, cool lake swims to beat the heat, or a full day tackling off-road trails. There's truly something for everyone.

We also put the EXOCOM Link-1 to the test on this trip—long days, wet conditions, dusty trails—and it delivered clear communication the entire way.

Check out the video below to see how it performed. 🔗

📍 Utah: Canyons in the Canyons

“Is it gravel or paved?” The question comes up often on online motorcycle forums when riders are attempting to figure out the composition of a specific road along their route. We’re all “adventurers,” but deep down, most of us know that we can’t handle a full-sized bike like Christian Pfeiffer at the Erzberg Rodeo. Throw in a passenger and luggage, and we tend to stick to the pavement, even on “adventure” machines.
When planning, we scrutinize our routes, zooming in deep on Google Earth and asking ourselves whether the road is worse than when the picture was taken or what happens if it rains. Can-Am claims its new three-wheeled Canyon makes such questions less relevant and opens the touring experience up to places we might have otherwise avoided. To test this premise, my riding partner and photographer Holly and I spent a week riding Canyons through the best gravel and dirt Utah’s national parks have to offer.
