I got to paddle the Augusta Canal Sunday afternoon with some return customers working on their Serene18 Paddle Trail Passports; 4 down, and 1 to go for this group!
This was the first time I’ve paddle the Canal since the hurricane hit. Definitely feels a little different, especially on the trail side but was still an enjoyable time.
Our highlight was taking a pit stop on a dock with a rope swing! Check out the bursts!
Our wildlife highlight was a coming up on a baby fawn waiting for his mother to return. Plenty of turtles and birds the whole way down!

We had a great tour yesterday to Stallings Island! We found the donkeys on the north side of the island and they were happy to receive some carrots, celery, and even strawberries for breakfast! Appreciate everyone who came out!

August 3 Stallings Tour
It was a much cooler day than last weekend. With occasional rain, the donkeys didn't want to leave the protection of the tree cover, but our group was still able to see plenty of wildlife. A family of 5 or 6 deer swam from one island to another as we were going up through the islands. We also saw either a muskrat or an otter swimming on the Georgia side of Stallings, but it was gone in a flash and we weren't able to figure out what it was. We also saw several belted kingfishers, a few great blue herons, an ibis (in the photo with the deer), several snowy egrets, and a few other birds who weren't as bothered by the rain and cooler temps.

The temps may have been up and the water level was down a bit, but that didn't stop us from having a great time taking a large group out to Stallings Island on Saturday. On top of seeing our four friends, the group was treated to seeing some of the largest brown water snakes we have seen in a while, as well as an indigo heron. The best way to beat the heat is definitely out on the water, or taking a dip at one of our swimming holes.

Wow! This is incredible. I've heard rumors of a potential bobcat but never a photo yet. Will definitely be on the look o...

Wow! This is incredible. I've heard rumors of a potential bobcat but never a photo yet. Will definitely be on the look out next time we are paddling Betty's Branch!

More fun coming to the river!

It would change the skyline along Augusta’s Riverfront, as plans for an outdoor adventure center with ziplines over the river move forward.

Making a Splash

Colden “Cole” Watkins was born in Augusta, Georgia in 1988. As a kid, Cole, was very active; he loved playing basketball, baseball, guitar and the frequent trips to the lake and river. Cole graduated Greenbrier High School in 2007. He decided that his roots to his hometown were too deep to leave for college and enrolled into Augusta State University where he met his now wife, Ashley. In 2012, he graduated with a Bachelors in Business Management.

During Cole’s Junior year in college, he was aaigned a project that asked the undergrads to build a business from the ground up, that would survive in today’s economy. Cole decided to pick a topic that not only entertained people, but also involved something he loved. Thus, the Cole Watkins Kayak Tours business plan was born. Cole always felt the people of Augusta never took full advantage of the beautiful river sitting in our backyard. After receiving an “A” on the project and encouragement from his professors, Cole opened CWT on May 26, 2011.

CWT offers two options; Kayak Rentals & Guided Kayak Tours. CWT offers many routes along the Savannah river ranging from Lake Thurmond to Lake Olmested. CWT does most of their business at Betty’s Branch which is located at Riverside Park in Evans. The business is ran on the weekend year around and tailored to the customer’s wants and demands. No matter your age or experience, Cole is the guide for you. Many adults and children all get their start, kayaking with Cole!

Since opening up in 2011, CWT has proudly put over 2,500 smiling faces on the water! Here’s what some are saying about their experience:
