Today is Croatia Statehood Day.

For many Croatians, it is a day of pride, reflection, and remembrance; a recognition of the path that led to an independent Croatia and the generations whose lives were forever shaped by the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the war that followed.

As an outsider, it’s impossible for me to fully comprehend what that means, but I am thinking about one of my clients today, one who fled during the war, hiding in caves, and enduring trauma that lives in his body still today. Trauma that was (and still is) a logistical point for me when I booked his return home last year.

Today, on Croatia Statehood Day, he and his family are boarding a flight home once more; there is something profoundly moving about the timing.

Travel often gets reduced to vacations, bucket lists, and beautiful photographs, but sometimes it is something far more meaningful.

Sometimes it is about identity, about history, and about honoring where you come from while creating new memories for those who will carry the story forward.

35 seconds of pure happiness because my new passport arrived.

While I’m celebrating fresh stamps and future adventures, let this also be your friendly reminder to check your passport expiration date.

One of the most heartbreaking things some travelers realize too late is that their passport is expired or that it expires too soon for their destination’s entry requirements.

The tricky part is that every country has different rules; some requiring your passport to be valid for 6 months after departure from their country while others require less. Some require multiple blank pages, some are stricter than others, and airlines can deny boarding before you even leave the U.S.

Nothing ruins the excitement of a trip faster than a passport issue that could have been avoided.

So consider this your gentle nudge:
👀 Check your passport
👀 Check your kids’ passports, too
⏳ Renew early if needed
🌏 Don’t assume every destination has the same rules

In July 2027, Both Worlds Travel is privately chartering a yacht along the Dalmatian coast for a small group of travelers who want something more intimate, immersive, and unforgettable than the typical cruise experience.

Think:
• historic arbor towns
• swimming directly from the yacht
• wine, food, and island hopping (and a rakija or two)
• breathtaking sunsets on the Adriatic
• only 36 guests aboard

Cabins are filling up, and once we’re full, we’re full.

I’ll be hosting a live Zoom presentation this Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET to talk about the details and what makes this experience so special.

There will be a special bonus for anyone who attends the live Zoom and registers for the sailing.

Share with someone who you think would appreciate this trip.

RSVP link in bio / comments or scan the QR code in the video.

You know that feeling when a massive cruise ship pulls into port, and 3,800 people pour out at once?

This is not that.

In July 2027, I’m taking just 35 people on a private yacht charter along Croatia's Dalmatian coast.

We will pull directly into beautiful coastal towns that have stood for centuries, swim off the back of the yacht in quiet coves most travelers will never see, and linger over wine at dinner because we’re overnighting in port, not rushing to get back before the ship sails away for the night.

You’ll absolutely have moments where people see you walk off the ship and wonder how you got there.

You got there because you said "yes," while others said “one day.”

Some of you have been following my Croatia travels for years, watching my stories, thinking maybe someday you’d go.

This is someday.

I’ve spent years building relationships throughout Croatia and becoming one of the first certified Croatia Specialists in the world. This sailing is the result of all of it... the partnerships, the access, the local connections, and the belief that travel is better when it is shared with the curious.

This is the first yacht charter I’ve ever hosted; there will only ever be one first group.

Say yes, I'll link to more details in the comments.

It’s my honor to play a role in some of the most meaningful moments in my clients’ lives: retirement celebrations, milestone anniversaries, honeymoons, and long-awaited journeys that become part of a family’s story forever.

Travel is deeply personal, and some journeys stay with us for the rest of our lives, not simply as memories, but as experiences that become part of who we are. They shape the stories we tell, the joy we carry home, the perspective we gain, and even the energy people remember us for.

I call this travel that becomes part of our legacy, because when a journey reconnects us to wonder, perspective, or ourselves, it changes something in us. Those shared experiences become woven into the fabric of our lives in a way that is both palpable and lasting.

Travel is an investment of time, resources, and energy, and when approached with care and intention, it can be one of the most rewarding investments we make. I’m beyond grateful to play a small but meaningful role in helping my clients go there.

Tell me, where to next?

Here’s a way to get to know more about the places you visit while beefing up your personal library.

Preparing for a visit to a foreign country can be overwhelming, with no shortage of things to figure out before you go. Where should you eat? Where should you stay? What do you tip? Even harder to gather than this service information, however, is a sense of cultural understanding. With this in mind, language learning app Babbel asked some foreign ambassadors to the U.S. (and we asked a few more) to pick the book they believe first-time visitors to their country should read before they arrive. Their answers may surprise you. https://cntraveler.visitlink.me/YgV8wi

My latest article is out in the Retirement Resource Guide. This time, I'm taking you to Norway, a place with special meaning: the homeland of my great-grandparents. I could have written pages on the Lofoten Islands alone. I hope you enjoy the article, and I'm here when you are ready to to Norway.

2026 is open for booking, and it's time to lock in your travel plans. DM me for a link to my calendar, and let's talk travel.
