Here are some things you may not know about River Cruising:
💫 No Motion Sickness
You won’t get seasick on a river cruise. Unlike ocean cruises that sail through open waters and can be affected by waves and swells, river cruises glide smoothly along calm, inland waterways. The ride is gentle and steady, with little to no rocking motion, which means you can fully relax and enjoy the journey without worrying about feeling queasy. For anyone hesitant about cruising because of seasickness, a river cruise is the perfect solution!
🗺️ Itinerary Changes
It is important to “go with the flow” while on a river cruise. Itineraries can change due to the water level. If the water is too high and the ship cannot get under bridges, they may change the itinerary or arrange for alternative transportation for excursions. The same may happen if there is a drought.
👨🏻👩🏻👧🏻 Fewer People
River cruising feels more like staying at a movable, boutique hotel than on a cruise ship. This is because they hold much fewer people than a typical ocean vessel. You will likely know most of your fellow passengers by the end of your trip, making it easy to create lasting friendships.
🚶🏻 An Active Vacation
A river cruise is an active and immersive way to travel, perfect for curious explorers who want to make the most of every destination! Mornings often begin bright and early, with travelers disembarking the ship to dive into guided walking tours, cultural experiences, or scenic excursions that showcase the heart of each town or city.
🪢 Mooring
While at their destination, the ships will moor next to each other. You may need to walk across other ships to get on land if you’re the outside ship. Also keep in mind, if you open your curtains you will be looking directly into a stateroom on the neighboring ship. Be sure to keep those curtains closed if you’d like privacy.
