Please be mindful, as our forests are very dry this year. Get a permit before burning.

Vermont is currently experiencing abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions, and the Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation is reminding the public to exercise caution and follow all state laws and local ordinances with open burning.

Campfires within a designated fire ring on the GMNF do NOT require a permit.

Open burning elsewhere currently requires a permit from your town forest fire warden, and Vermonters should always check with their town forest fire warden before burning. A list of town forest fire wardens is available at https://fpr.vermont.gov/forest/wildland-fire/forest-fire-wardens.

Vermonters need to reduce stormwater runoff by 20% to meet clean water goals.

Today, Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation issued the 3-acre stormwater permit which requires many commercial landowners to install green infrastructure like green roofs or porous pavement. This infrastructure will prevent polluted runoff from entering our lakes and rivers.
