The stage of elk velvet.
Did you know that elk shed and regrow their antlers each year??
Elk velvet is referring to the soft velvet like skin that covers the antlers of elk. This skin contains many nerves and blood vessels that are critical for the development of elk’s antlers, providing nutrients and oxygen to the antlers. This period of antler growth is rapid, resulting in eventual hardening. Once the antlers are hardened, the velvet skin will shed off with the help of elk rubbing them against trees and other plants. What remains are the bone antlers that remain until spring.

Trilliums bloom for a short period of time. There grow plentiful on Trilliums Falls trail. Just 10 minutes North of Blankenship Farmhouse

Tis the season ... for waterfalls and trillium, hiding in Redwood National & State Parks. Plan a trip to Prairie Creek for a walk or hike and look out for the tiny white flowers and listen for the burbling of the waterfall. A Slice of Heaven. Thank you Nate Berg for the image.
