How did they install earthquake protection under the Capitol without it moving? During the 2004-2008 restoration, strategic beam placement allowed for a successful weight transfer to install base isolators! These impressive devices can protect the building from earthquakes up to a 7.3 magnitude.

Sometimes all we need is a little more perspective.

On our Trail of the Ancients Tour, you don’t just visit ruins—you stand in places where lives were lived, stories were shared, and traditions were built to last.
â €
Walking through ancient dwellings in Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, and Aztec Ruins, you begin to feel the presence of those who came long before us. The connection is quiet, powerful, and deeply human.
â €
This isn’t just sightseeing. It’s a chance to reflect, reconnect, and gain a whole new appreciation for the roots beneath our feet.

Explore the ruins. Connect with the past.

Throwback to the Utah State Capitol restoration! In 1915-1916 the meeting minutes of the Capitol Commission reported the desire to have classical art in the Capitol to best represent Utah’s highest aspirations and ideals.

During the restoration, in 2006, that vision became reality when artists Eugene Daub, Robert Firmin, and Jonah Hendrickson brought to life Arts and Education, Immigration and Settlement, Land and Community, and Science and Technology. Each sculpture on display in the Rotunda, depicts an adult figure mentoring a child, and is filled with symbolism to inspire generations to come.
