Big News! ✈️
We’re excited to announce that Madison Municipal Airport is officially being renamed to Madison Regional Airport!
At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, the Council voted unanimously in favor of the name change through Resolution 2025-4C. As many of you know, our airport was upgraded to Regional Status last fall through the FAA’s National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). With that upgrade, it only made sense to update the name to better reflect the scope of our service area—“Municipal” just didn’t cut it anymore.
After careful research and conversations with the FAA, we’ve officially begun the process of updating all nomenclature. 🔄 We are in the process of preparing updates to our signage, branding, and logos; however, this will officially roll out once the FAA finalizes the name change.
🔹 Important Note: Our airport identifier KIMS will not be changing. So all your charts, flight plans, and familiar references remain the same.
🛠️ During the transition, you may notice some mismatches where “Municipal” is still listed in certain places while “Regional” appears in others. This is completely normal and expected as we work through the update process. There will be no impact to operations or navigation.
Thank you to everyone who continues to fly in and support our airport, and a huge shoutout to our amazing staff who work hard every day to make Madison a standout in regional aviation!
Stay tuned—exciting things are ahead for Madison Regional Airport!
