Be Prepared for REAL ID Enforcement

Starting on May 7, 2025, all U.S. travelers aged 18 and older must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. Below are some frequently asked questions that you and your clients should be aware of:

How do I know if my license or identification card is REAL ID compliant?
REAL ID-compliant cards will be marked with a star on the upper top portion of the card. If the card does not have a star, it is not REAL ID-compliant and won't be accepted as proof of identity in order to board commercial aircraft.

Do I need a passport if I have a REAL ID?
If you are traveling internationally, you will still need your passport. If you are traveling domestically, you will only need one valid form of identification - either your REAL ID or another acceptable alternative such as a passport, not both.

What happens to travelers who show up without a compliant license? Will TSA turn them away?
Travelers who do not present a REAL ID-compliant license or acceptable alternative beginning May 7, 2025 will not be permitted through the security checkpoint.
