Some stories stay with you long after the credits roll.
Out of Africa has always been one of those stories for me. The sweeping landscapes, the unforgettable romance between Karen Blixen and Denys Finch Hatton, and the quiet heartbreak of losing the life you once dreamed of—it all stays with you.
Last year, we had the opportunity to visit the Karen Blixen Museum in Rungsted, Denmark, where Karen spent much of her life. Walking through her home and learning more about the woman behind the story made me appreciate Out of Africa even more.
Now, this June, we’ll be continuing that journey with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum in Nairobi—the farmhouse where she lived during her years in Kenya and where the story of Out of Africa truly began. It’s the place where she built her coffee farm, fell in love, endured heartbreak, and found the experiences that would later inspire her timeless memoir.
What makes Karen’s story so moving is that she lost almost everything she had worked for—her marriage, her farm, her fortune, and eventually the man she loved. Yet from those losses came a book that continues to inspire readers around the world and a film, starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, that introduced her story to new generations.
Visiting both Denmark and Kenya feels like following the footsteps of a remarkable woman whose story reminds us that even life’s greatest disappointments can become part of a lasting legacy.
I can’t wait to stand where it all happened.
