Dive into the rich tapestry of Chester's history, nestled on the northwest shore of Lake Almanor. 🌲🏞️ Perched at 4,500 feet, Chester's foundation lies atop volcanic rock deposits from the mighty Mount Lassen. This scenic town has been a beacon for over a century, drawing in tourists for its natural beauty and serving as the backdrop for a thriving sustainable lumber industry.

The town's name, chosen in 1894 by founders Burwell Johnson and Oscar Martin, pays homage to their respective hometowns in Illinois and Vermont. But Chester's story took a dramatic turn with Mount Lassen's explosive eruptions in 1914 and 1915, leading to the establishment of Lassen National Park in 1916 and putting Chester on the map for adventurers and nature enthusiasts.

Yet, Chester has its wild tales too. During Prohibition, it earned the moniker 'Little Reno' for its lively bootlegging and gambling scene, where loggers and cowboys often settled their differences with brawls in establishments like the Bear Club.

Today, Chester stands as a testament to resilience, history, and natural wonder, inviting all to explore its past and present.

Earl, who wanted to honor his three daughters in a lasting way. He creatively combined the names of Alice, Martha, and Eleanor to christen the lake - ALice, MArtha, and EleaNOR, weaving a legacy of family love into the very fabric of our landscape.
