With Ireland enjoying a heatwave, Ollie Tour Guide shared a lovely photo of Kylemore Abbey and his Irish Gold group in today's Connemara sunshine - and it prompted us to share a few more photos of this romantic castle, which is surely one of Ireland's most heavenly places!

This neo-Gothic delight was built in 1867 as a gift from an English doctor to his wife - and it's been home to Benedictine nuns since 1920. When you visit, you can stroll the wonderfully restored rooms, see the Victorian Garden on its 1,000 acres of grounds, and visit the enchanting little chapel.

See Kylemore Abbey for yourself on several of our tours, including Irish Odyssey, Irish Gold, Jewels of Ireland, and Scottish & Irish Gold.

Thanks to Ollie for the first two photos! Long may the sunshine last for these happy tour-goers!

If you like a drop of the black stuff, you might enjoy a visit to one of Dublin's most popular attractions - the Guinness Storehouse. This seven-story attraction in the heart of Dublin's historic Liberties tells the story of one of Ireland's most popular exports - and finishes with a panoramic view of the city at the top-floor Gravity Bar.

CIE Tours guest Claire Maguire took a visit on her tour recently - and her photos give a great insight into what it's like to visit this fun attraction, which is filled with info on how the drink is made, vintage ads, and centuries of heritage. Let's take a look inside!

Our thanks to Claire of Cruise Planners - www.islandgirltravelandvacations.com for the wonderful photos!

Happy Independence Day to all who are celebrating today! And here’s a fascinating piece of history connecting the USA and Britain: a statue of George Washington in the heart of London at Trafalgar Square. This symbol of friendship between the two nations was given to Britain by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1921, commemorating Virginia’s 300th anniversary and celebrating improved relations after years of conflict.

Despite having been an adversary, Washington was respected by many in Britain after the war, with King George III even calling him “the greatest man of the age."

In a unique twist, the statue stands on soil imported from Virginia. Legend has it that Washington once vowed never to set foot on British soil again - so the statue was placed on American soil shipped across the Atlantic.

As you celebrate today, consider this remarkable symbol of shared history and friendship, right in the heart of London!

We have a once-in-a-lifetime love story for you— and it’s one we’re so honored to have been a part of. Jennifer Rookard and David Peter’s journey together began with a chance connection on a CIE Tours adventure, and blossomed into a beautiful romance that neither of them could have imagined.

We’ll let Jennifer tell the tale:

“On May 22, 2023, I posted on a CIE Tours Facebook group asking if anyone else would be on the Scottish-Irish Gold Tour that I was going on. David replied, saying he and his mother would be on the same trip to celebrate her 85th birthday. The next morning, he messaged me privately to say he’d enjoyed our brief exchange and hoped to keep in touch. I accepted his friend request — and our connection took off from there.

In the weeks leading up to the trip, we messaged constantly, exchanging phone numbers and sharing everything from our excitement about Scotland and Ireland to our mutual love of Halloween and haunted tours. We even booked a spooky underground history tour in Edinburgh together!

When the trip finally arrived in July, we met in person for the first time in the lobby of the Sandman Hotel in Glasgow. By the next evening, we had expressed a genuine personal interest in one another. Over the course of the tour, we became inseparable, much to the amusement and delight of our fellow travelers who lovingly dubbed us “the Hallmark Couple.”

After the tour, we continued visiting each other between Washington and Las Vegas. By the end of the year, David (along with his mother, whom he lovingly cares for) relocated to Washington. In December, we moved into our first home together and began building a life full of love, laughter, and new adventures. On Thanksgiving 2024, surrounded by family, David proposed with a Celtic knot ring — and of course, I said yes!

On May 23, 2025 — exactly two years after David’s first message — we were married.”

***
Our warmest congratulations to the happy couple, and thanks, Jennifer and David, for sharing your story with us! See their photos for a glimpse of their life together, from their first days of traveling to their wedding.

***
And David and Jennifer actually own their own travel agency, so they can book a CIE Tours tour for you! Find more at Explore Travel LLC. They also have a travel show at Explore Travel TV Show. See their personal pages at David L Peters and Jennifer Peters.

Here's a lovely snapshot, shared by tour director Murt O'Shea! This is Murt with Anne and John Melia on the Irish Adventure Tour this week. They were actually in Ireland 25 years ago this very week, on the CIE Tours Irish Supreme tour.

Murt tells us their tour back then was led by "legendary CIE Guide Mick O’Kane and Driver Mike O’Sullivan who was referred to as Spiky Mike - what a great team they were together."👏

Thanks to Murt for sharing - and we hope Anne and John had a splendid time on their return tour! 💚☘️
