Make a copy of your passport? Yes—really! And here's why:

Email a photo of your passport to yourself at an email you can access from any device. If your phone or passport is lost or stolen, having a digital copy makes it easier to work with the local U.S. Embassy to replace it quickly.

Also, email a copy to your travel agent and to print an extra copy for a family member that is not traveling with you to hold!

Print a paper copy and keep it in your carry-on or luggage (separate from your actual passport). This gives you a second backup in case tech fails.

It’s a simple step that can save you major stress.
