2026 GCARA – Field Day is June 27 – 28 at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach

This is one of the largest and most popular annual activities in Ham Radio.

Whether you are interested in providing or setting up equipment, operating on the air, learning more about various modes of operation (we expect to be operating multiple modes and bands), or in simply enjoying the company of other hams, we urge you to come out and join us.

Food and drinks will be available, and those who can stay overnight will be welcome. Accommodations will include your own vehicles/tents/bedding. Also, there is sufficient space within the pavilion for cots, sleeping bags, etc.

Kenny Hollenbeck (KE4NC) will sponsor this Ham Helpers activity. Recent and vintage gear will be displayed for viewing and/or acquisition. Bring your old or unwanted equipment with you and put it on the table! This will free up space in YOUR shack and make someone else’s day.

Ham radio plays a vital role in emergency communications because it can provide reliable communication when traditional systems such as cell phones, internet service, and even public safety networks become overloaded or fail.

Amateur radio operators can quickly establish communications using portable radios, mobile stations, emergency power sources, and temporary antennas, allowing critical information to be shared between emergency responders, shelters, hospitals, government agencies, and affected communities. Throughout hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and other disasters, trained amateur radio operators have helped relay messages, coordinate resources, and provide situational updates when other forms of communication were unavailable.

Because ham radio operators regularly practice their skills through nets, drills, public service events, and emergency exercises, they are often ready to provide valuable communication support when their communities need it most.

Robert Rockwell, a longtime ham radio operator, was among those honored during the June 17 Margate commission meeting.

Please join us Tuesday, June 23rd at 7:00 PM at the Broward Health North Conference Center.

This month’s featured presentation will be “AllStarLink – Connecting Amateur Radio Around the World” presented by Mike Sams, KF4ZW.

Mike’s Amateur Radio journey began at the age of 14 when he earned his first amateur license. Since then, he has spent decades exploring and advancing communications technology, with particular interests in repeater systems, networking, and modern radio communications. We are fortunate to have Mike share his knowledge and experience with GCARA members as he introduces us to the world of AllStarLink.

AllStarLink has become one of the most popular networking technologies in Amateur Radio, allowing operators to connect repeaters, personal nodes, and radio systems across town, across the country, and around the world. Mike will explain how AllStarLink works, what equipment is required, and how amateur radio operators can take advantage of this powerful and rapidly growing network.

Whether you are new to AllStarLink or already considering setting up your own node, this presentation promises to be both informative and practical.

In addition, Field Day Chairman Kenny Hollenbeck, KE4NC, will provide our Final Field Day Preparations Update
