Loon Island, in Lake Bonaparte, in the NorthWest Adirondacks, is a private family Island which you may rent in its entirety, for your family or small group of ten or less, from June to Sept. He built a hunting camp there, which became a summer place for his grandchildren, for his grand grands, and for our guests. We have a satelinte island: Turtle Island that is just a few yards off shore where you may camp out, if you choose. Outside and inside Fireplaces. A gazebo for viewing sunsets, a long screened porch overlooiking the lake, a fifty year collection of National Geographics, a hammock, a beach, a canoe, a row boat, and many primitive amusements available. Here’s a glimpse of one of our favorite moments from last summer at Loon Island. Mama loon got very close; as her baby dove below for safety. We love having these beautiful loons as neighbors!

Yes, our grandfathers did hunt, shoot, eat, and sometimes stuff critters, some of which still sit on the mantle of our fireplace.
But they didn't shoot this juvenile Snowy Owl which never matured but will always be sitting there staring at you as you are staring into the fire. A farmer shot him off the ridge of his barn , wounding but not killing it, then brought it to our great grand Dr. Drury in Natural Bridge, in hopes it could be saved. It died looking reproachfully at Dr. Drury, with its head cocked just this way. We will never live it down.
