Cruise & Travel News – Monday, June 15, 2026
Good morning, this is Bruce with Lap of Luxury Travel bringing you today’s Cruise & Travel News.
Our top story today clears up a rumor that spread quickly over the weekend involving Carnival Legend.
Online reports claimed the ship had struck a sandbar between Estonia and Finland. Those reports have now been proven false.
Carnival has confirmed the ship was conducting a compass calibration maneuver, a process that requires the vessel to operate at very slow speeds and in specific patterns for several hours. No operational issues were reported, no damage occurred, and Carnival Legend continues its 12-night itinerary without delay.
In Royal Caribbean news, passengers booked on an upcoming Alaska sailing aboard Voyager of the Seas have been asked to voluntarily give up their reservations.
In exchange, Royal Caribbean is offering what many guests are calling a very generous compensation package for those willing to move to alternate sailings. While unusual, cruise lines will occasionally seek volunteers when operational adjustments are needed.
Speaking of Royal Caribbean operations, Mariner of the Seas returned to Galveston slightly behind schedule after diverting for a medical evacuation.
Guests booked on the next sailing were asked to delay their terminal arrival times by about 30 minutes. Royal Caribbean confirmed the ship's next voyage departed on schedule with no impact to the itinerary.
In new ship news, TUI Cruises has officially taken delivery of Mein Schiff Flow.
The approximately 160,000-ton vessel becomes the ninth ship in the fleet and the second member of the company's new InTUItion Class. The ship welcomed its first guests this weekend from Trieste, Italy.
Meanwhile, Holland America's Zaandam remains under close watch as propulsion repairs continue following multiple Alaska itinerary disruptions. The cruise line has already compensated affected guests and is working to return the ship to normal operations.
And finally, in airline news, carriers around the world continue adjusting schedules and capacity as fuel prices, international demand, and operational costs remain major challenges throughout 2026. Travelers should expect airlines to continue fine-tuning routes and schedules as market conditions evolve.
Bottom line: cruise demand remains extremely strong, new ships continue entering service, and despite occasional operational issues, the industry remains on track for another record-breaking year.
