For those of you have "blind faith" in the government taking care of it's citizens, you need to read this post. There were 40 of us is a private group that raised money ($3500), bought hygiene supplies, sleeping bags, and blankets. Went sent a team of 4 (at OUR expense) to NC to help. This is response by "incompetent federal bureaucrats" when our team arrive to deliver the materials (in a very rugged Jeep Gladiator with 2 VERY experienced of road drivers).
"Please forgive the long post, but we did deliver the hygiene bags and the sleeping bags/blankets but were met with little to no compassion.
A friend of ours got in tough with a group up in NC that has been helping cut down trees, remove debris, and be a point of contact for those who need help. We arrived last Thursday and were told that we needed to wait as she (the woman in charge) was in a meeting. We waited for about half an hour and started to leave. They called us in and we were immediately met with severe attitude. We told them we had an atv, chainsaws, etc to help and we had donations. They had crews that were doing chainsaw work, but wouldn’t tell us where they were and told us that they didn’t need help. If you have individuals that show up to help, point them in the direction to go so more people can be helped quicker. So, we got our camper situated, our friend got his set up as well and we headed back up to the building. We tried to go into the room to see what needed to be done and were shewed away. So we headed out and were chased down by a guy who’ll told us the hero stuff was over and the best thing we could do was sit around and wait for them to tell us what to do. You all know us pretty well, we are not sit around and wait kind of people. So we did not do that. He told our friend what was said and we left to go down to an operations location that had helicopters and found out down there from the operations manager that they were taking donations and creating boxes based off what the communities needed. So we dropped off the items there, has a great talk with the operations manager and went back to the truck. We expected to help, not just donate and were met with disappointment.
It almost seemed as if we needed to be in the “good ol’ boy” club to help. We packed up and went back to where we were. You all did such an amazing job bringing in funds. And I know it has taken me a bit to post this. Thank you all for your donations and the love you gave to the community in NC. We have been a bit disappointed in how we were treated wanting to go up and help, especially since we were told to come on up we could use the help. Thank you all for everything. We did what we set out to do, put the kits together, and deliver them up in NC. Thank you all again!"
