Disney VS Universal: Which Is Better for Your Family?

One of the questions I hear from families planning an Orlando vacation is, should we go to Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando? And the answer is it depends on your family!

Both are incredible vacations, but offer very different experiences. Your kids’ ages, heights, favorite characters, tolerance for thrill rides, and overall vacation style can make one a much better fit than the other.

Why Moms Deserve a Girls’ Trip

Motherhood can be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences in life, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t also exhausting. You wake up with a constant stream of needs to meet, decisions to make, and responsibilities to carry. Even during the most beautiful moments there’s a mental load that never shuts off. Over time, constantly pouring into others without taking time to refill your own cup can lead to burnout, overstimulation, and feeling disconnected from yourself outside of motherhood.

For military spouses or moms living far away from family, even a short break can be hard to come by and community doesn’t always happen naturally. Especially as a military spouse, your village has to be built intentionally, often through shared experiences, vulnerability, laughter, and making time to reconnect with yourself and others outside of daily responsibilities.

When you live far from the people who have known you the longest, it’s easy to feel like you’re carrying everything on your own. Military life, frequent moves, deployments, and long stretches without family support can make it difficult to build deep friendships or feel fully rooted anywhere. Sometimes, just finding people who understand the emotional weight of that lifestyle can feel rare.

Girls’ trips are so much more than just fun memories or photo-worthy moments. They remind moms that they are still individuals outside of motherhood. This is something that I really struggled with for a long time, and still do. Somewhere between daily routines, endless responsibilities, and constantly caring for others, it can become easy to lose sight of the person you were before becoming “mom.” My interests, hobbies, dreams, and personality slowly got pushed aside in the middle of survival mode and caregiving, not to anyone's fault. It just happens.

Spending time away with friends allows moms to reconnect with those parts of themselves again. It’s a chance to laugh freely, have uninterrupted conversations, explore new places, and simply exist without being needed every second. Having moments that are purely enjoyable, restful, or exciting matters too.

Something that I still struggle to accept is that taking time for yourself doesn’t mean you love your family any less. As moms, especially, there’s this pressure to believe that being constantly available, constantly sacrificing, and constantly putting everyone else first is what makes us “good” mothers. So when we do take a step back for ourselves, guilt tends to follow close behind.

Part of that guilt comes from knowing that things at home might not happen exactly the way we would do them. The routines may look different, the kids might eat more snacks than usual, bedtime may get pushed back, outfits may not match, and the house might feel a little more chaotic while we’re away. And honestly? That can be hard to let go of.

But different doesn’t automatically mean wrong.

The reality is, our families are capable of adjusting. Kids adapt. Partners CAN figure things out. Life continues, even if it looks a little different for a few days. And sometimes, allowing space for that adjustment can actually be healthy for everyone involved. At the end of the day, we deserve care, rest, connection, and experiences that belong to us. Taking time away doesn’t erase the love we have for our families, and it doesn’t make us less devoted mothers. If anything, it reminds us that we are still people outside of the roles we carry every single day.

Motherhood asks so much of us emotionally, mentally, and physically, especially when support feels limited or life feels constantly unsettled. But constantly running on empty doesn’t serve anyone in the long run. Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do for ourselves and our families is allow ourselves the space to breathe, reconnect, and simply be.

A girls’ trip won’t magically fix burnout, loneliness, or the challenges that come with motherhood and military life. But it can offer something just as valuable: laughter, perspective, support, and the reminder that you don’t have to lose yourself while caring for everyone else. You are allowed to exist as both a mother and your own person at the same time.

🏖️☀️ Happy National Beach Day!

If I could spend today anywhere, it would be soaking up the sun on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. From the crystal-clear turquoise water and powder-soft sand to bike rides, snorkeling, and the iconic Mount Rustmore photo stop, it’s the kind of beach day that feels like pure magic. 🌴🚢

Whether you’re looking for adventure or a relaxing day with your toes in the sand, Castaway Cay has a little something for everyone and it’s one of the many reasons I love sailing with Disney Cruise Line.

If you could spend National Beach Day on any beach in the world, where would you choose? 🌊💙

The BEST DAY EVER just got even better! ☀️💜✨A live-action Tangled?! I am SO excited. March 31, 2028 we (Dennis Patrick ) will be there!

Tangled has always held such a special place in my heart, so much so that it was actually the theme of my WEDDING! 💜 From the lanterns to the whole “I See the Light” feeling, this movie will forever be tied to one of the most special days of my life.

So yes… I will absolutely be counting down until I can see Rapunzel, Flynn, Pascal and that lantern scene brought to life. 🥹✨

And you already KNOW my expectations for the lantern scene are HIGH.

Who else is excited for the live-action Tangled?! 💜
