☘️ The beautiful holy mountain Croagh Patrick in County Mayo, where St. Patrick is said to have spent 40 days fasting at the summit. Today, it's a 3-4 hour hike to the top with steep terrain, but well worth it for cleansing the soul! Happy St. Patrick's Day to all! ☘️☘️

❤️Who needs Romeo and Juliet when you have Diarmuid and Gráinne! A true tale of star crossed lovers, Gráinne was the chosen bride of non other than Finn McCool (yes, of Giant's Causeway fame), but met Diarmuid at the betrothal banquet. They took their love on the road, hiding from place to place while pursued by the mighty warrior giant. Their last hideout took them to the highest cave in Ireland which you might be able to spot on the Gleniff Horseshoe valley just north of . 💚 Happy Valentine's Day! 🥰🥰

Five fast facts about St. Brigid, whom we celebrate on February 1st:
1. St. Brigid is the only female of the three patron saints of Ireland (along with St. Patrick and St. Columcille)
2. St. Brigid was born in Ireland (Dundalk) to a pagan King of Leinster and a Christian Pictish slave.
3. St. Brigid created the reed cross when tending to the death of a pagan, who converted to Christianity just before his death.
4. St. Brigid was a champion of the poor, often giving away her father's treasures so that the poor could barter it for food.
5. (and our favorite) St. Brigid's day was declared a national holiday in Ireland beginning in 2023.

Happy Halloween! Did you know that Halloween has many associations with Ireland? One such myth is that Halloween has its origins in Oweynagat, or the Cave of the Cats outside of Roscommon, Ireland. Also known as the Gate to Hell, legend has it that once a year, on Halloween, the gate is weakened allowing spirits to emerge and wander with the living. Those on this side of the gate dressed up in order to "blend in" and be left alone. What do you think? 👻👿🙀 🎃🎃

Did you know that by some accounts there are 172 dolmens (or portal tombs) in Ireland dating from between 5500 to 2500 BC? Very few of these have been excavated and those that have sometimes revealed bones and other burial items, leading to speculation that dolmens were used for burial rituals or other ceremonial purposes. But just how did they get those capstones on top and how are they still standing?? 🤔🤔 ☘️
