In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, NCDOT is working quickly to restore the roadways of western North Carolina, including the Devil's Stairs route. At this time, NC 88 is open to traffic, but there is work ongoing, so be prepared to stop in construction areas. There are also several places where tiles under the road have been replaced but have not been repaved yet. The Blue Ridge Parkway is closed through Ashe County at this time, but hopefully, it will reopen this summer. We recommend that you check the BRP website for closure updates.

Attention Motorcycle Riders:

Please be aware that roads in Ashe County and surrounding areas are not safe now for motorcycle travel.

Many roads have collapsed, and many more are on the verge of collapsing. There is sometimes limited visibility of these hazards. Also, gravel and debris from intersections or driveways is very common.

We appreciate your thoughts and support during this time of recovery.
