International Women's Fishing Association The International Women’s Fishing Association was established in 1955 to promote women’s fishing in an arena primarily dominated by men.

The IWFA is a diverse group of women who love to fish, experience the camaraderie and sportsmanship of tournament and fun fishing, and are involved with promoting conservation and supporting education. Over the years it has become one of women’s most prestigious fishing clubs, setting the standards for conservation and providing education through scholarships. The IWFA adopted the International Game Fish Association species list in 2004 affording members worldwide opportunity to compete in their own backyards. The IWFA promotes angling competition among women and all club tournaments are release only. The IWFA Tournament schedule includes three or more release tournaments each year with members traveling to destinations such as Louisiana, Guatemala, Mexico, the Florida Keys, and Virginia for the opportunity to compete against their fellow women anglers. IWFA members love nothing more than getting together to fish with each other. IWFA “Funaments” combine both! Organized by local members to fish their home waters, Funaments are small on rules and big on fun. A welcome addition to the tournament schedule, Funaments have become a big part of the IWFA event calendar with members visiting members this year alone in Vero, Palm Beach, and Islamorada, Florida, Idaho, and North Carolina. Today you will find IWFA members fishing on piers, beaches, lakes, and rivers from pangas, skiffs, and sportfishing boats of all sizes as they compete for IWFA monthly and annual awards based on release and weight catches from the entire IGFA species list.

Happy 100th Birthday, Joan Wulff!
This year the IWFA joins anglers everywhere in celebrating the 100th birthday, Oct. 18th, of Joan Salvato Wulff, the First Lady of Fly Fishing. A true pioneer, Joan proved early on that fly fishing was every bit a woman’s sport, winning her first national casting title at just sixteen and going on to claim twenty-one national championships. She made history as the first woman to win the National Fisherman’s Distance Fly Championship against an all-male field and later set an unofficial women’s record with a remarkable 161-foot cast.
In 1979 Joan and her husband, Lee Wulff, founded the Wulff School of Fly Fishing in the Catskills of New York, where generations of anglers have learned to cast. Her book Joan Wulff’s Fly Casting Techniques was the first to analyze the mechanics of casting and remains a classic today. Among her many honors is her 2007 induction into the International Game Fish Association Hall of Fame, and she holds IWFA club records for Atlantic salmon and brook trout. Joan’s grace, skill, and generosity as a teacher have inspired countless women to pick up a fly rod. Happy birthday, Joan, from all of us at the IWFA!

A big thank you to our sponsors for helping make the IWFA Islamorada Backcountry Tournament possible! 🎣💙

We have some awesome prizes lined up for our top anglers this year, from full spin setups to custom fly boxes and a beautiful fly reel. We’re so grateful to the businesses and individuals who continue to support our club and make these events so special!

This is one of IWFA’s longest-standing release tournaments, bringing together fly and spin anglers to target bonefish, snook, tarpon, permit, redfish, and spotted seatrout. With 30 anglers on the water, we’re looking forward to some great competition!
