So while we were exploring Eastport, Maine last week on our “Bold Coast of Maine” tour, I ran into the “Downeast Cowboy”, a commercial fisherman, and Maine social media personality who travels around the state highlighting great spots from shops, festivals and small towns. He ends each of his reels with “Get At It!” He took the time to introduce himself, ask about why we were in Eastport and we had a great conversation! He and his dad have a new endeavor, Eastern Edge Salt Company. Thanks for taking the time to say hello!

Our last day in Vermont was spent "High on a Hill" at the Von Trapp Family Resort where they have hiking trails, gardens, a chapel, cows, a nice cafe and their own brewery and beerhall. They also offer a tour of the Lodge which gives a lot of history on how the Family came to settle in Vermont. And yes.... we couldn't keep from singing a song or two from the Sound of Music that day! Those Hills were Alive with beautiful gardens and views of the surrounding Green Mountains! And... the German food at the Beerhall was delicious! A great way to end our week in Vermont.

Our basecamp for our Vermont week was Little River State Park. Again we had some beautiful secluded sites. We spent a day exploring the park which began with a peaceful paddle on the Waterbury Reservoir. We had hoped to see the loons we had been hearing every night, but we only saw a few king fishers and a merganser. In the afternoon, some folks hiked, some biked, while others just relaxed in camp. We ended the day by cooking sausages on the fire and a fierce game of UNO!

Like New Hampshire, Vermont is also full of many hikes to beautiful cascades and waterfalls. We did several of these short hikes.... and rewarded ourselves with many of the delicious treats Vermont has to offer! C***r Donuts, Maple Creamees (Maple soft serve) and of course some Ben and Jerry's!

Our 3rd day in Vermont was spent exploring and learning about rural life and Vermont history. We started off at Shelburne Farms where we learned (and actually tried) to milk a cow, met friendly sheep, learned about making cheese (and sampled some!) and walked to the beautiful Shelburne Inn on the shores of Lake Champlain. Our afternoon was spent at the eclectic Shelburne Museum which features Vermont history, the Ship the Ticonderoga, Norman Rockwell and Monet art, a working Carousel and much more!

Bikes, Burlington, boats and blue sky.... that's what our 2nd day in Vermont was all about! The weather delivered a glorious day and we took full advantage of it. We first biked out to the Colchester Causeway which stretches several miles out INTO Lake Champlain. Green Mountains on the left, and NY's Adirondack Mountains on the right! Then we spent a few hours at the famous eclectic Church Street Market in Burlington before hopping on the 'Spirit of Ethan Allen" boat for a gorgeous evening scenic tour of Lake Champlain. Beautiful!

Our second week was spent in Vermont. Spend just a few minutes there, and you know why it's called the 'Green Mountain State"! Everything is green, and all shades! We were a bit weather challenged this week, but like New Hampshire, we made it work, stayed dry, and still got everything in. Our first full day took us up Mt Mansfield, the highest mountain in Vermont via the Stowe Gondola. We waited out the fog and it paid off!

Crawford Notch State Park was our basecamp for the week. We loved staying at Dry River Campground. Crawford Notch also has some great day hikes and we managed to get in a few despite a bit of rain. The favorite was up Mt Willard. Check out the view from the top!
