St. Patrick's Day in SLC is a full weekend situation. Here's how to do it right.

The parade is March 14 at The Gateway (11 AM), Siamsa festival follows with 25+ vendors and live Irish music — free, family-friendly, and genuinely fun. But the weekend doesn't stop there. Squatters Pub and Red Rock Brewing both run green beer specials starting Friday the 13th. The Celtic Women concert at Eccles is Saturday evening if you want the elevated version. The Rock Salt on Pierpont books live acts through the weekend too — better room, no green beer, actual musicians. And if you need to sleep it off, Sunday morning at Liberty Park is always the move — the paths are quiet before noon and the coffee cart near the main pavilion opens at 8.

Salt Lake City has been socking away money for years to give its oldest park a face-lift.

BEAR LAKE — 2 hours from Salt Lake City International Airport.

The water is naturally turquoise. They call it the Caribbean of the Rockies. Raspberry shakes are a state tradition here. Boat rentals start at $50/hr.

If your kids need a beach day and you're landlocked — this is it.

The canyons are opening up. Your first hike of the year is overdue.

Millcreek Canyon is the move for early March. The road is clear, dogs are allowed on even-numbered days, and the creek is running loud from snowmelt. The falls at the end of the Pipeline Trail are worth the 5-mile round trip — or just drive to the end and walk 10 minutes to the overlook if you're easing back in. Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood are still ski territory at elevation, but the lower trails are starting to show dirt. Bring layers. It's 55° at the base and 38° at the top, and that gap matters. When you come back down to the city, the Granary District is the natural landing — food, drinks, and usually something live playing somewhere.

SLC Post District just got a serious upgrade. And it comes with award-winning tamales.

La Casa Del Tamal opened a new location in the Post District at 500 South and 300 West, and it is already one of the best meals in downtown Salt Lake. Head chef Cristina Olvera brings flavors straight from Pachuca, the capital of the Mexican state of Hidalgo. The menu runs deep: fire-grilled octopus, whole bone-in snook fish, birria tacos, enchiladas, and of course the tamales that made the original West Valley City location a local legend.

Attached to the restaurant is Azucar Cafecito Bar, a tiny coffee spot perfect for a post-meal cortado or a standalone afternoon stop. The space is warm, the portions are generous, and the salsa verde hits different.

Open Monday through Saturday. Reservations available on OpenTable, but walk-ins work for smaller groups. The Post District has been building momentum, and La Casa Del Tamal is exactly the kind of anchor restaurant that neighborhood needed.

SLC to five national parks in one road trip. Here's the play:

Day 1-2: Salt Lake City — eat your way through downtown, hit the slopes if there's snow
Day 3: Drive to Arches (4 hrs) — Delicate Arch at sunset is non-negotiable
Day 4: Canyonlands — Island in the Sky for the overlooks
Day 5: Capitol Reef — the most underrated park in Utah, not even close
Day 6: Bryce Canyon — hike the Navajo Loop, it's otherworldly
Day 7: Zion — Angel's Landing or The Narrows depending on your comfort level
Day 8: Drive back to SLC (4.5 hrs) or fly out of St. George

Total drive time spread across the week: about 12 hours. Every mile is scenic.

Pro tip: Book SLC as your base. Flights are cheaper, the airport just got a $4.1 billion upgrade, and you start your trip at elevation with the Wasatch Mountains as your warm-up act.

If you're planning a trip to Salt Lake this spring, write these down:

1. Killa — Japanese-Peruvian fusion just opened in the Post District. The kind of food you used to have to fly to Lima for.

2. Sushi by Bou — Opening inside The Peery hotel in March. Experiential omakase concept from NYC. First Utah location.

3. Yamato Ramen pop-up — Straight from Tochigi, Japan at UT Craft Ramen, March 27-29. Tickets under $20.

4. La Casa Del Tamal + Azucar Cafecito Bar — High-end Mexican cuisine and a boutique coffee bar run by one family, both in the Post District.

The SLC food scene is not what it was five years ago. It's evolving fast and most people haven't caught on yet.

Friday night in SLC and you have too many options. That's the kind of problem we like.

Here's what's happening tonight and this weekend:

Friday:
- Utah Symphony performing John Adams at Abravanel Hall
- Ballet West at the Capitol Theatre
- The Little Mermaid at the Jeanne Wagner Theatre

Saturday:
- BYU vs Utah women's basketball at 2pm
- UCF vs Utah men's basketball at 7pm
- Both at the Huntsman Center

Sunday:
- Charlie Berens — Lost and Found Tour at Eccles Theater on Main Street

And if none of that is your speed, the Wasatch just got buried again. Brighton picked up 17 inches. Solitude got 2 feet. Spring skiing is ON.

This is what February in Salt Lake looks like. Pick your adventure.

March in SLC is going to be ridiculous.

John Mulaney at Eccles Theater on March 21st. A Hans Zimmer candlelit concert — Batman, Interstellar, Pirates of the Caribbean scores performed live. Ashnikko bringing the Smoochies world tour through town. Peso Pluma on the Dinastia Tour.

And ski season is not even close to done — the Wasatch is still stacking snow and spring skiing means bluebird days, soft corn snow, and afternoon beers on the deck at Brighton.

Book your flights now while March rates are still reasonable. SLC Airport, one rental car, and you have access to all of it.

Start planning at slctrips.com — TripKits, events, and 1,600+ destinations organized by drive time.

This weekend in SLC is stacked.

Friday night you've got three choices and they're all good: Utah Symphony performing John Adams at Abravanel Hall, Ballet West at the Capitol Theatre, or The Little Mermaid at the Jeanne Wagner Theatre.

Saturday is BYU vs Utah women's basketball at 2pm followed by UCF vs Utah men's basketball at 7pm — both at the Huntsman Center.

Sunday Charlie Berens brings the Lost and Found Tour to Eccles Theater on Main Street.

And if you need to decompress after all that, the Wasatch just got two feet of fresh snow. This is what February in Salt Lake looks like.
