Nestucca River Fishing on the Oregon Coast

The Nestucca River is one of my favorite places to chase Oregon Coast fish. From fall Chinook to winter steelhead, this river has everything I love about coastal fishing—deep holes, fast runs, changing water, thick timber, and that feeling that the next cast could be the one. You don’t always need a boat to hook into a BIG fall Chinook!

We hit the dock looking for fresh salmon pushing in from the Pacific, and it didn’t take long before things got serious. There’s nothing quite like watching your rod bury over and hearing that drag start screaming—especially when you’re standing on a dock with nowhere for that fish to go but straight out!

These big Chinook are powerful, mean, and built for a fight. This was one of those days that reminds me why I love fall salmon fishing on the Oregon Coast. Simple gear, a good tide, some patience, and the chance of hooking into an absolute freight train.
