Guided Tours, Rallies, Group Rides, and Clinics with a friends & family feel that stretch from beginner to expert, allow people to test their mettle, and learn their limits so they can push past them. Our goal is to build a team sport feel into all of our events. A group of riders in the woods cheering, dragging, and high five-ing each other through some minor trauma! Let Appalachian ADV lead you through the beautiful wilderness, help challenge your riding abilities, and laugh about our failures around the campfire. From these experiences we want to help you grow into better riders and form new friendships! Appalachian ADV loves being a part of the Adventure and Dual Sport Community and our goal is to build our own little community within that community. We love to see familiar faces coming out to all of our events and also our friends' events that we support.

As the trail continues the bike bounces over and around rocks, whose presence has multiplied steadily as the pathway descends. The track is wide enough for a truck so the rider has many lines to choose from but constantly finds himself searching for the ugliest. Skills and engineering need to be tested after all. The beauty of the valley begins to tighten on the rider and his motorbike, moving from oak and hickory forest to a tranquil pine cloak. The relentless trail with its violent allure juxtapose the calming beauty of the pine forest and a babbling brook, traveling parallel with the pair for a short stretch before heading off into the evergreen darkness. With their descent finished, the bike and rider reach the valley floor, enjoy the respite of the graveled forest road, and plot a course for the next Bald Eagle Dual Sport Trail…

is researching and in the pre-planning stages of building a Bald Eagle and Rothrock State Forest Guided Tour in 2027! The initial plan is a set up similar to our Explore The PA Wilds Four Tour but it will cover Upper Intermediate to Advanced riding. A group of 10 riders plus a Lead and Sweep and a single base camp so we take a deep dive into the Bald Eagle Dual Sport Trail System which includes tons of gravel, drivable trails and single track. Since we hunker down at one spot, riders have the option to bring in an RV or rent a cabin so we ride hard and have great amenities each evening to recover and recuperate.

Stay tuned to the website and newsletters as we build!

If I can make this happen then we will be offering the all skill level Allegheny Backcountry Adventure Loop Guided Tour, Intermediate to Intermediate+ Explore The PA Wilds Four Tour, and the more Advanced Bald Eagle Tour in 2027. On top of Riding Clinics and Rallies that have something for every ADV & Dual Sport skill level!

The Athlete's Superstition Trope

Many athletes are portrayed as having a superstitious aspect to their preparation. Hollywood has leaned on that theme in just about any movie about athletics. There are definitely those who do feel superstitious and will religiously follow their personal routine before every game, before every play, before every at bat, before coming up to the starting line. For me, it was never about superstition but about the routine, getting my mind in the right place for optimal performance. I had a loose process that would put my mind at ease and relax the tension in my body. The "thing" always has its own flow, whether you are talking about a football game or a race or any type of athletic endeavor. My goal was to align my pre-game flow to allow an easier transition from calm to chaos.

When I coached football, before every game I had a routine: drive from work with some of my favorite music to the school with a stop in between to grab a Whopper Junior and change into my coach's outfit. I needed something to eat to keep my energy up and mind sharp and a way to break my mind from the stresses of work to leading these young gentlemen onto the field (the BK Lounge effect, it was coined). I never felt superstition, just a reset and recalibration of mind and body in preparation for the upcoming chess match. If I had to stop for gas, bathroom, or any other variable...it didn't matter if I had to throw the basic routine off with extra steps. I understood why I was doing it and focused on the recalibration. Even now, before each Clinic and Event I have a loose routine to ensure I get into the appropriate mindset and prepare my body for movement.

When I am riding and come up to an obstacle I know will challenge me, I have a process. Assess the terrain, formulize a plan, push out a couple deep breaths, attack and stay loose. At a friend's event last year I was sitting at the bottom of a gnarly, muddy, and rocky hill and was going through that process. One of the spotters heard my breathing and said, "don't worry man, you got this!" In the moment I appreciated the vote of confidence and responded with a "yeah buddy" as the KLX and I billy goat-ed up that hill. Not as hard as I had initially gauged but still a fun challenge. After the fact I thought about that moment with a smile on my face...the spotter didn't know me or my process and provided a little cheerleading, and that is what I love about the ADV and Dual Sport Community! The couple deep breaths that I push out, that is the way I push out that little bit of nerves that get in the way of confidence. I am mentally and physically pushing out the bad, exhaling the funk, and putting my mind and body in a better position to handle the stress, feel the flow, and attain a temporary victory against nature. Does it work every time? Of course not but there is only one way to improve... Have Fun, Take Chances.

Private Clinic Day 2 -》Taking theory and drills into the real world.

In the first session we start with bike set up and ergonomics then build upon each aspect from bike lifting techniques through bike balance, friction zone, body positioning, braking drills, steering techniques, maintaining and breaking traction, line selection and tire placement, managing and negotiating obstacles (ruts, rocks, loose gravel, small logs, potholes, hill climb and hill climb recovery, mud, etc.).

The second session takes us into the real world, building on the skills & drills from the previous session. Trees, rocks, ruts and other natural features replace the cones. The controlled environment at Base Camp is replaced by a semi-controlled environment when we hit the road. We review how to interpret terrain features that have been weathered and run through by other off-road vehicles. Our clinics are designed to have a more practical approach and hit basic fundamentals so that riders can gain a solid foundation, experience, and confidence in their machines and themselves.
