As we approach the election, I think it's time to set the record straight.
For years, I've heard the same tired narrative—that Niagara Outfitters somehow stands to benefit from the development of the park at Stella Niagara because my cousin happens to be the Lewiston Town Supervisor.
Let me be perfectly clear: That accusation is not only misleading, it's completely unfounded.
As an outdoor enthusiast and someone who has spent years promoting recreation along the Lower Niagara River, I am thrilled to see this beautiful waterfront property being developed for public use. For far too long, this incredible stretch of shoreline has been inaccessible to the community. A fishing pier and kayak launch are fantastic additions that will benefit residents and visitors alike.
And let's not overlook something important: There is currently no dedicated public kayak launch on the lower river. Providing a safer, more accessible way for experienced paddlers to enjoy the Niagara River is a win for everyone.
But here's where the political narrative falls apart.
From a business standpoint, Stella Niagara makes absolutely no sense for Niagara Outfitters.
My tours and rentals depart from Lewiston and travel downriver to Youngstown, a beautiful two-hour paddle that has become one of our most popular experiences. And it's not just about kayaking. Half the adventure is departing from one historic waterfront community, arriving in another, and then hopping aboard the Discover Niagara Shuttle for the return trip to Lewiston.
It's a unique experience. People love it. And frankly, why would I mess with success?
Furthermore, Stella Niagara is a location better suited for experienced, independent kayakers—not beginners or casual renters. The river current moves faster in that area, and paddlers need to understand the conditions and know how to handle themselves on the water. That's not the environment where I want to launch inexperienced customers.
So, to those who have spent years suggesting that this park is somehow being developed to benefit my business, I have a simple question:
Have you actually taken the time to understand my business, or spoken to me about it, or is it just more convenient to repeat a political talking point?
I support this project because I believe in public waterfront access, outdoor recreation, and making the Niagara River more accessible to our community. I've spent years encouraging people to get outside and appreciate the incredible natural resources we have right here in our backyard.
Not every public improvement has a hidden agenda. Not every family relationship is a conflict of interest. And not every good thing that happens in this town needs to be turned into a political conspiracy.
Sometimes, a great project is simply a great project.
And this one deserves to be judged on its merits—not on who happens to be related to whom.
I WILL NOT BE USING THE STELLA PARK FOR NIAGARA OUTFITTERS, PERIOD!
PLEASE STOP USING ME AS A POLITICAL PAWN!
