Registan Square, Samarkand 🇺🇿

Registan, meaning 'sandy place' or 'desert' in Persian, is home to three historic madrasahs built under the Uzbek Janid and Timurid dynasties.

📸 Postcards from Samarkand, the biggest open-air museum of Uzbekistan 🇺🇿

Samarkand was the first city I visited in Uzbekistan, crossing over from Tajikistan two years ago.
Although it wasn't initially my favorite, exploring the old city's historical monuments, mausoleums, shops, and traditional houses was truly amazing. Due to its strategic Silk Road location between China, Persia, and Europe, Samarkand once thrived as one of Central Asia's largest cities.

Shahrisabz may not be on every traveler's map, but this UNESCO-listed city in southern Uzbekistan is a treasure trove of history and culture on the Great Silk Road. 🇺🇿
As the birthplace of Amir Temur, the commander who founded the Timurid Empire, Shahrisabz boasts breathtaking Timurid architecture and traditional crafts.

My day trip from Samarkand turned into an adventure when I crashed a wedding party in the old town and got treated like family - that was definitely a day to remember!! 🥳

In the heart of Tashkent, overlooking Amir Temir Square, Hotel Uzbekistan stands as a testament to the region's history, founded in 1974 as a premier luxury hotel of the Communist era.
Its heyday may be over, but it remains a striking example of Soviet Brutalist architecture in Central Asia.

Just like I promised, my top pick for Tashkent metro station is Kosmonavtlar, a space-themed station that makes you feel like an astronaut! 🚀
This station is a tribute to the Soviet space program, featuring iconic Soviet cosmonauts, especially Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova, the first man and woman in space.
The interior is truly breathtaking, decorated with blue ceramic medallions with images of Ulugbek, Icarus, Valentina Tereshkova, Yuri Gagarin, Vyacheslav Volkov and Vladimir Dzhanibekov
A stunning mural stretches along the platform, showcasing iconic space moments and figures like Galileo, Sputnik, and Yuri Gagarin, while the ceiling's Milky Way design features glass stars.

Located at the entrance of Kosmonavtlar metro station, the Cosmonauts' Memorial, or Cosmos ensemble, honors Soviet space exploration achievements since its opening in 1980. The ensemble proudly displays a sculptural group featuring Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Yuri Gagarin, and other pioneering figures in cosmonautics.
A nearby bust honors Vladimir Dzhanibekov, twice Hero of the Soviet Union and a distinguished native of the Tashkent region.

A photo tour of my favorite town in Uzbekistan. 🇺🇿 🇺🇿

Khiva, the tiny jewel of the country, nestled in the Khorezm desert is packed with colorful madrassas, mosques, mausoleums and minarets
Inspired by Central Asian Islamic architecture, these structures showcase intricate geometric patterns, vibrant glazed ceramic tiles in shades of blue and green, and intricately carved wooden elements.
Itchan Kala, the heart of Khiva, is a city within a city, encircled by formidable fortress walls with four gates. This historic hub retains over 50 monuments and 250 old houses, primarily from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Kalta Minor, a majestic blue tower, was intended as a minaret, built by Mohammed Amin Khan in 1851, but remained unfinished after his demise.
