Yesterday was a special day on Jost as we celebrated Roy Caldwood, a 103 year old Centenarian! He is the oldest know living Buffalo Soldier. The stories and the history this gentleman witnessed! It was a delight to meet his family and friends.

Buffalo Soldiers, refers to the United States Army regiments of Black soldiers, primarily cavalry, who served on the American frontier after 1866. Mr Callwood served in WWII.

The name was given to them by the Native Americans because of their dark curly hair, which resembles the buffalo’s coat and because of their fierce nature of fighting.

Oh the stories he told!
