🇻🇳 VIỆT NAM SET TO JUMP ONE SPOT TO NO. 98 IN THE WORLD

What a run for Vietnamese football!

Fresh off successfully defending the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026, Việt Nam has now gone 26 international matches unbeaten under coach Kim Sang-sik, stretching across nearly 700 days.

The run dates back to October 2024 and includes 22 wins and four draws, with strong performances across regional and international competitions.

Việt Nam’s latest achievement came against Thailand, completing a 4–2 aggregate victory to retain the regional championship.

Following the ASEAN Cup success, Việt Nam is now projected to jump one spot to No. 98 in the FIFA world rankings when the next rankings are announced.

Coach Kim credited the success to the players’ hard work and dedication, while saying Vietnamese football continues to grow stronger.

Back-to-back ASEAN titles, nearly 700 days unbeaten and another step up the world rankings - great momentum for Vietnamese football!

🏮 SKIP DISTRICT 1 FOR A MORNING - EXPLORE CHỢ LỚN

Most visitors to Ho Chi Minh City spend most of their time around District 1.

But head west into District 5 and Chợ Lớn, and you’ll discover a completely different side of Saigon.

Known as Saigon’s Chinatown, Chợ Lớn has been shaped by generations of Chinese-Vietnamese families, traders, temples and businesses. This isn’t a tourist attraction built for visitors - it’s still a real, working neighbourhood.

A few places worth checking out:

✅ Thiên Hậu Temple - built in 1760 by the Cantonese community and famous for its hanging incense coils.

✅ Nghĩa An Assembly Hall - dedicated to Guan Yu, with beautiful traditional architecture and a calmer atmosphere.

✅ Ôn Lăng Assembly Hall - another historic Chinese assembly hall worth visiting if you want to explore deeper into the neighbourhood.

✅ Bình Tây Market - one of Chợ Lớn’s most iconic markets and a great place to experience the energy of local wholesale trade.

If you have more time, check out Tam Sơn Assembly Hall, built by the Fujian community in the 19th century.

Then explore the surrounding streets for Chinese-Vietnamese food, traditional medicine shops, roast meats, dim sum, noodles and desserts.

Around the Mid-Autumn Festival, head to Lương Nhữ Học Street, when the area fills with colourful lanterns, masks and festival decorations.

The biggest tip?

Come early.

Chợ Lớn feels completely different in the morning, when shops are opening, locals are eating breakfast and the temples are already active.

There’s no giant Chinatown entrance gate or polished pedestrian strip here.

It’s busy, local, sometimes chaotic and that’s exactly what makes it worth experiencing.

Skip District 1 for a morning and discover another side of Saigon. Sometimes the best travel experiences are the places just outside the usual tourist path.

✈️ TAN SON NHAT OPENS NEW T2–T1 CONNECTION

Good news for travelers at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport.

A new internal traffic connection is now open between International Terminal T2 and Domestic Terminal T1, giving vehicles another way to move through the airport instead of everyone being directed straight onto Trường Sơn Street.

The connecting road is also being widened from one lane to two, with updated road markings and signs to help keep traffic moving safely and smoothly.

The change comes during the busy September 2 National Day holiday period, when Tân Sơn Nhất is handling around 130,000 passengers a day.

Airport staff are also guiding vehicles waiting for international passengers toward less crowded pickup areas around T2.

With most domestic airlines now operating from Terminal T3 and Terminal T1 mainly serving Vietjet, the airport has more flexibility to improve traffic flow between the terminals.

A simple change, but hopefully a helpful one for anyone heading to or from the airport during busy periods.

🚤 NEW WAY TO SEE SAIGON FROM THE RIVER

Ho Chi Minh City has added a new open-air sightseeing boat to the Saigon River, giving locals and visitors another way to experience the city from the water.

The new PIKA boat departs from Bạch Đằng Wharf and takes passengers on a scenic 45-minute cruise through central Ho Chi Minh City.

Along the way, you’ll pass some of the city’s most recognizable sights, including Nhà Rồng Wharf, Khánh Hội Port, Ba Son Bridge and the Thủ Thiêm urban area, before returning to Bạch Đằng Wharf.

With its open-air design, passengers get wide, unobstructed views of both sides of the Saigon River - mixing historic landmarks with the city’s growing modern skyline.

🌇 Evening trips could be the highlight. As the sun goes down and the buildings and bridges light up, you get a completely different view of Saigon reflected across the river.

The PIKA can carry up to 56 passengers and currently operates from 3:30 PM to 10:30 PM. A drink is also included during the cruise.

Another cool addition to Ho Chi Minh City and a relaxing new way to enjoy the Saigon River.

Hidden upstairs right across from Bến Thành Market is this little football jersey gold mine.

Walk through the restaurant, head to the back, take the stairs up, and follow the football posters. Inside, you’ll find racks of retro jerseys from international clubs, national teams, Premier League sides, and plenty of classic designs.

Cool setup, good prices, and definitely worth finding if you’re into football shirts.

🇻🇳 VIETNAM LEADS THE PICKLEBALL WORLD CUP

Pickleball has exploded in popularity across Vietnam, and the country is making a huge showing at the 2026 Heineken Pickleball World Cup in Da Nang.

After five days of competition, Vietnam sits at the top of the medal standings with 106 gold medals and 244 medals overall. South Korea is currently second, while the United States follows with nine gold medals.

But there’s more to the story than the medal count.

This year’s World Cup has brought nearly 5,000 athletes from more than 80 countries and territories to Da Nang, with thousands of matches being played across different categories, ages and skill levels.

It’s also a historic event for the region, with the Pickleball World Cup being hosted in Asia for the first time. The tournament runs from August 30 to September 6, with the finals and closing ceremony taking place on September 6.

Vietnam’s pickleball scene itself is still young. The Vietnam Pickleball Federation was only officially established in July 2026, showing just how quickly the sport has grown across the country.

More than just medals, events like this are another chance for Vietnam to welcome athletes and visitors from around the world while showcasing Da Nang on the international stage.

Vietnam has announced US$300,000 in emergency humanitarian aid to support the people of Nepal following the devastating flash floods and landslides that struck the country on August 26.

The disaster has caused heartbreaking loss of life and widespread destruction, damaging homes, roads, bridges and critical infrastructure. Search and rescue teams continue working to find those still missing and help communities affected by the disaster.

Vietnam’s support comes in the spirit of friendship, solidarity and mutual support between the people of Vietnam and Nepal.

At times like this, borders don’t matter. It’s about people supporting people and countries coming together when help is needed most.

Our thoughts are with everyone in Nepal - the families who have lost loved ones, those still waiting for news, the rescue teams working around the clock, and every community beginning the long road to recovery.

🇻🇳 TRAVELING TO VIETNAM? CHECK YOUR VISA BEFORE YOU FLY

A recent case involving a passenger denied entry to Vietnam for not having the required visa is a good reminder for anyone traveling internationally.

The passenger is now seeking around US$100 million in damages from Asiana Airlines after being allowed to board a flight to Vietnam but later refused entry by immigration authorities.

So who is responsible?

Airlines check passports, visas and other travel documents before accepting passengers for international flights. However, travelers are still responsible for making sure they have the correct documents, and the final decision on entry always belongs to immigration authorities at the destination.

Being allowed to board your flight does not automatically guarantee entry.

Before traveling to Vietnam, double-check:

✅ Whether your nationality requires a visa
✅ Your passport details match your visa
✅ Your visa covers your travel dates
✅ The number of entries is correct
✅ Your arrival point and itinerary meet the visa requirements
✅ Any transit requirements along the way

If you arrive in Vietnam and are denied entry, cooperate with immigration officials, ask why entry was refused, contact your airline about your return journey and keep copies of your documents, boarding passes, receipts and communications.

Vietnam currently offers e-visas to citizens of all countries and territories, with visas valid for up to 90 days and available for single or multiple entry.
