December is a great month to visit Vietnam, but the weather varies a lot from north to south.

Typical December weather
Best for.

🇻🇳 North – Hanoi, Sapa, Ha Giang, Ninh Binh
Cool, dry, around 10–22°C; Sapa can be very cold (Mountains, culture, sightseeing)

🌤️ Central – Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue
Around 19–27°C; rain is still possible, especially early December
Hoi An, culture, food.

☀️ South – HCMC, Mekong Delta
Warm and mostly dry, around 25–32°C
City tours, Mekong Delta.

🏝️ Phu Quoc

Warm, sunny, around 24–30°C, generally excellent beach conditions
Beaches, snorkeling, island tours

⭐ My recommendation for December
If your priority is sunshine + beaches, choose Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta.

If you want cool weather + mountains, go Hanoi – Ninh Binh – Ha Long – Sapa/Ha Giang.

For Central Vietnam, the second half of December is generally a better bet as rainfall tends to decrease.
