Your journey begins as you’re warmly greeted by your guide, a knowledgeable and charismatic local woman who leads you along a lush jungle path. Along the way, she shares fascinating insights into the native plants and trees — from natural medicines to materials used for building homes. With a smile and a playful metaphor, she even jokes about a root medicine that supposedly helps men play better football!
Arriving at the welcome area, you’re invited to witness the traditional food preparation process. Watch as meals are cooked the traditional way in an earth oven — and yes, you’ll get to taste the delicious results!
From there, you’re guided to the nakamal, a sacred meeting place shaded by ancient banyan trees, where the village chief and men await to begin the welcome ceremony. This is where the cultural immersion truly begins. You’ll have the chance to taste freshly prepared kava and even join in by dressing in traditional attire.
As the rhythmic beat of ancestral songs fills the air, you’ll follow a long procession of villagers, moving to the powerful stomping of feet that make the ground vibrate with energy and life. Even if you don’t understand the words, the emotion and spirit of the moment are deeply felt.
