Kamba recently welcomed a group of valued travel partners on a familiarisation trip through Odzala-Kokoua National Park.

Hosted by Anni-Mart and guided by Andy and Glance, the group experienced Kamba’s 7-night Odzala Discovery Journey, enjoying memorable wildlife encounters along the way.

Highlights included gorilla tracking, forest elephant sightings in the spectacular Lango Bai, and the unmistakable calls of African grey parrots echoing through the rainforest canopy.

FAM trips provide an opportunity for travel professionals to experience Odzala firsthand, helping them share the story of this remarkable rainforest and inspire future travellers to discover one of Africa’s most extraordinary wilderness destinations.

A new perspective has arrived at Ngaga.

Suspended within the rainforest, Ngaga’s new Canopy Walk invites guests to explore another layer of the Congo Basin — above the forest floor, among the trees, and closer to the life that moves through the middle canopy.

By day, it offers a remarkable post-gorilla tracking experience.
By night, guided Nocturnal Canopy Walks reveal a different side of the forest, where sound, shadow, and hidden species come alive after dark.

The bais are never quiet for long.

This camera trap footage captures a moment of interaction between forest elephants in one of Odzala-Kokoua’s mineral-rich clearings — places where wildlife gathers, social dynamics unfold, and the rainforest briefly opens itself to view.

Bird of the Month: African Grey Parrot

Few birds are as iconic to the Congo Basin as the African Grey Parrot — intelligent, highly social, and unmistakable in flight with its silver-grey plumage and bright red tail.

Found in the forests of Odzala-Kokoua National Park, these parrots move in pairs or flocks, their calls often heard overhead before they are seen. They play an important role in the ecosystem by dispersing seeds as they feed, helping maintain the health of the rainforest.

On a Kamba journey, a sighting of African Greys crossing the canopy is always a moment to pause and look up.

Some birthdays come with the kind of gift only the rainforest can give.

At Ngaga Lodge, guests recently had a remarkable encounter as two silverbacks, Neptuno and Jupiter, moved near the main deck with their families — climbing through the trees just metres away.

For lodge manager Dewalt, whose birthday fell on the same day, the timing felt especially meaningful. Almost as though the gorillas had come by to visit an old friend.

In the shadows of the rainforest lives one of Africa’s most impressive yet least-seen animals — the giant forest hog.

Found in Odzala-Kokoua National Park, these powerful wild pigs can weigh well over 200 kg, moving through dense forest in family groups as they forage for roots, fruit and other forest foods. Despite their size, they are surprisingly elusive, often disappearing into cover long before they are noticed.

With their striking facial features, dark coats and quiet strength, giant forest hogs are a reminder that some of the rainforest’s most remarkable residents are not always the most famous.
