From Onion Capital to Eggplant Hub, Spotlighting 7TH TARONG FESTIVAL 🍆

📍 Brgy. Oyungan, Miagao

The Municipality of Miagao is now drawing attention to another thriving crop: eggplant, or tarong. With Brgy Oyungan leading local production, the Local Government Unit of Miagao guided by Hon. Engr. Richard Garin, Jr. is promoting agri-tourism through the community’s Tarong Festival. 🎊

The town’s fertile lands also yield large volumes of high-quality eggplant. Barangay Oyungan, in particular, has become the center of tarong production, with farmers supplying markets across Iloilo and neighboring provinces. 🧑🏻‍🌾

To showcase this agricultural strength, Brgy. Oyungan annually celebrates the Tarong Festival, a barangay fiesta honoring the crop that sustains many families. The festival features a tarong-themed parade, Search for Little Miss Lin-ay Kang Tarong, cooking contests highlighting eggplant dishes and a trade fair where visitors can buy fresh produce straight from growers. 🫶🏻

Meanwhile, the Tourism Miagao is working with Brgy. Oyungan to include tarong farms in Miagao’s agri-tourism.Agri-tourism should not stop at onion. Through Tarong Festival, tourists can see another side of Miagao — where vegetables are not just food, but culture and celebration. 🤝🏻

"HANDURAWAN SA BAYBAYON Festival 2026" Kicks Off in Miagao, Celebrating Culture, Unity, Tourism and Livelihood 🎊

The coastal spirit of Miagao comes alive this week as Brgy. Baybay Norte Miagao Iloilo officially launches Handurawan sa Baybayon Festival 2026, a seven-day celebration of culture, unity, tourism, and livelihood running from April 24 to 30. 🤩

The festival aims to boost tourism, support fisherfolk and small business owners, and strengthen community ties. Stalls featuring local food, crafts, and products are expected to line the baybayon throughout the week. 🍱

The Local Government Unit of Miagao with full support of Hon. Engr. Richard Garin, Jr. through Tourism Miagao, expressed support for the barangay-led initiative as part of the municipality’s broader push for community-based tourism. 🫂

MIAGAO Strengthens Role as Onion Capital of Western Visayas 👑

Tourism Miagao headed by Mrs. Mary Diane N. Flordeliza, MGDH I/ Municipal Tourism Officer is stepping up support for local growers and bulb onion supply in the region this year while also promoting agri-tourism. 🫶🏻

Recognized as the Bulb Onion Capital of Western Visayas, Miagao has the largest production area in Iloilo province. The town’s onion farms cover number of barangays, including Brgy. Bagumbayan, with more farmers engaged in cultivating the commodity. 🧅

Beyond food security, the Local Government Unit of Miagao under the administration of Hon. Engr. Richard Garin, Jr. is positioning onion farms as agri-tourism sites. Agri-tourism lets us showcase the hard work of our farmers while giving tourists a deeper connection to Miagao Soon, visitors can walk through the onion fields of Brgy. Bagumbayan and other barangays, meet the people behind the harvest, and understand why Miagao is called the onion capital. ✨

Tourism Miagao Trails, Where Weekend Wellness Meets Safety 🫶🏻

📍Assembly Area: Newly Inaugurated 5-Storey Miagao Municipal Hall

While weekends are often reserved for rest, many residents and visitors are choosing to spend them on the trails of Miagao. 🐾

With the rise in weekend hikers, the Local Government Unit of Miagao, headed by Hon. Engr. Richard Garin, Jr., Municipal Mayor is ensuring that safety remains at the forefront. Mrs. Mary Diane N. Flordeliza, MGDH I/ Municipal Tourism Officer and staff, in coordination with Miagao Municipal Police Station, Miagao Tour Guides Organization, Barangay Officials strictly implements safety guidelines and protocols for all outdoor activities. 🧗🏻

Hiker Reminders ❕

Before you set off on an adventure, make sureyou're all set. Please follow these steps for asmooth and hassle-free trip.

·Secure Hiking Permit:

1. Scan the QR code and fill out the MiagaoHiking Permit Online Application Form.

2. Ensure ALL members of your group completethe form.

3. Once everyone is done, kindly message us forconfirmation.

4. You will receive a notification once your waiveris ready for pick-up.

5. Your hiking permit will be issued on the day ofyour hike or once waiver is submitted.

·On the day:

1.All hikers must log in at the Tourism Desklocated in front of the Municipal Hall.

2. Registration hours every weekend is from 5:30AM to 9:00 AM only.

Hiking Safety Reminders❕

1.Practice Leave No Trace.

2. Be mindful of your transportation capacity;avoid overcrowding vehicles.

3. Wear appropriate hiking gear and stayhydrated.

4. Hire local guides.

5.Stay with your group and follow designatedtrails.

Beyond church walls and heritage sites, Miagao trails are turning “rest days” into “best days” to most of our tourists. Weekend became hiking time where Miagao’s natural treasures hidden by the mountains are now revealed by footsteps.

We are grateful under the administration of our Municipal Mayor, Hon. Engr. Oscar “Richard” S. Garin, Jr. for the continuous development of access roads going to upland barangays which resulted to the discovery of more eco-tourism sites and influx of tourists.

Today, hikes aren’t just for exercise but also a ticket to fresh air, clear minds, and views you can’t resist. Let nature reset you and have your next eco-adventure here in Miagao.

Lola Kits Pottery Clay Model of Miagao Church Commands Attention at Tourism Miagao ✨

A stunning clay model of the iconic UNESCO, Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parish, Miag-ao, Church is currently on display at the Tourism Miagao Office, captivating visitors with its intricate details and craftsmanship. The model features impressive carvings and a cross atop its triangular roof, proudly bearing the inscription "MIAGAO Church".

Posing in front of a wooden shelf adorned with various clay models, including the Miagao Church replica are our very own local artisans, descendants of the late Lola Enriqueta “Kiting” T. Fortugana, one of Miagao’s pioneer in pottery along with Tourism Miagao Office’s employees.

This clay model serves as a testament to the skill of local artisans and the community's pride in preserving its rich history.
