Nearby Caerleon, well worth a visit along with the free Roman Museum

The Amphitheatre of Caerleon, located in South Wales, is one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in Britain. Built around AD 90, it could seat up to 6,000 spectators and was used for military training exercises and public entertainment, such as gladiator contests. It formed part of the Roman fortress of Isca Augusta, which housed the Second Augustan Legion. Today, its well-preserved remains give a fascinating glimpse into Roman life in Britain.

🌎 The tide rise at Chepstow is the fastest on Earth. The tide can rise 13 metres (43 ft) in 4 hours!

🌗 Astronomical tides (moon-sun induced) at Chepstow and the Severn Estuary are the second highest ‘average’ tides on Earth!

🌊 99% of all rivers flow in only one direction, whereas the River Wye flows in two directions - South to the sea and North to Tintern. It changes its flow four times in every 24-hours!

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus! Happy St David’s Day. Although both our cottages are in England we are so very close to the Welsh border. The mix of Welsh and English cultures makes this a very interesting place to visit, not only beautiful but packed full of history 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
