In 2006, a kindergarten in Saint-Laurent-Medoc, France, was found to be situated on an ancient burial mound dating back to the Bronze Age Bell-Beaker culture. Archaeologists discovered 30 skeletons, and a recent study revealed that the burial mound, known as Le Tumulus des Sables, was used for 2,000 years (3600 BC to 1250 BC) for unknown reasons. The site, characterized by its shallow and unadorned nature, continued to be a burial ground, posing a mystery to archaeologists. Interestingly, only six individuals from the Bell-Beaker culture were identified, and they appeared to be locally born, contrary to the typical nomadic nature associated with the Bell-Beaker people. Additionally, their diet, lacking fish or seafood, was atypical for the region with its proximity to estuaries, rivers, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Excavations in Nimes in 2016 revealed around 20 graves at Roman ruins, initially appearing disorderly for a cemetery. Surprisingly, three of the graves, dating back to the seventh to ninth centuries, were identified as the oldest Muslim graves in France. Clues, such as the orientation of faces toward Mecca, and DNA tests indicating Berber ancestry, suggested that these individuals were Muslims, shedding light on the presence of Muslims in France during the early Middle Ages.
