Jamaica’s largest four-lane bridge, which is currently under construction over the Montego River in St. James, is 95 per cent complete.​​​​​​

This was disclosed by Managing Director of the National Road Operating and Constructing Company (NROCC), Stephen Edwards, who was speaking during a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) ‘Think Tank’ on Tuesday (March 18).

Mr. Edwards described the bridge, which spans 180 metres, as “a signature piece in the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project and, more specifically, the Montego Bay Bypass”.

He further noted that the bridge has surpassed the local record previously held by the 150-metre-long bridge on the May Pen to Williamsfield segment of Highway 2000.

The mid-sized R Hotel in New Kingston has been listed for sale at a price of US$16.5 million (J$2.5 billion). The property is being marketed by Andrew Issa of Coldwell Banker Jamaica, who says short-term rentals are biting into the business that would normally flow to hotels.

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is advising the public to exercise caution when visiting coastal areas across the island, following reports of Portuguese man o’ war (Physalia physalis) washing ashore in parts of Portland. NEPA says beachgoers and individuals engaging in coastal activities should remain vigilant, as the Portuguese man o’ war can still sting even after it is dead, due to a reflex action of its tentacles.
