Someone recently asked me, “What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever visited?” Surprisingly, it wasn’t a hard question to answer—Chile’s Atacama Desert completely blew me away.

Known as the driest place on earth, its surreal landscapes feature vast salt flats, towering volcanoes, and some of the clearest night skies imaginable.

Whether you’re exploring the Mars-like Valle de la Luna or floating in aqua-coloured salt lagoons, the Atacama feels like stepping onto another planet.

I’ve just booked the gorgeous for a mother/daughter duo. Carved discreetly into the cliffside, overlooking Italy’s bay of Positano, every room is unique: a combination of understated luxury and colourful detail. This family-owned gem features 56 rooms, direct access to a private beach, several excellent restaurants and an iconic tennis court with coastal views.

Years ago, I visited this hotel (coincidentally, on a mother/daughter trip) and it still stands out in my mind as a showstopper. I like that’s it’s near the vibrant town of Positano, yet just far enough away to be a quiet oasis.
