Once upon a time in Parys, Free State.

Truth be told, this was a "carpe Diem" experience. En route to Gauteng from a Free State (Clarens and Bloemfontein) experience, we decided to off-ramp and take a mini tour of Parys! No regrets.

My first trip to Mpumalanga, back in 2016, was spontaneous and a fashion wreck 😅
But! Left so many memories that left us longing for a do-over!

I don't do this often (giving free travel tips that is) but here are a few Mpumalanga Travel Tips from experience:
1. Drive! Drive! Drive! If it means a car rental, then close your eyes, dip into you pocket and do it!
2. Get on the panorama route! This is where all the Mpumalanga Gems are.
3. Start your day Early so that you can maximise on the stops on the panorama route.
4. End your panorama experience at the Graskop Gorge Lift Co. There is so much going on at that stop and it definitely needs all the time in the world. Adrenaline Activities, the Afromontane Forest, Markets and restaurants I think. Oh and photos.
5. Consider staying in Nelspruit to mitigate costs. Nelspruit has amazing accommodation options at a decent price, and it is only 61kms from the beginning of the Panorama Route. Not too much on a fuel efficient car.
6. Prepare to spend on fuel. You will be driving from on stop to the other.
7. TRY TO MAKE IT TO ALL STOPS ON THE PANORAMA ROUTE. I've never, regardless of going on that route twice!

Aaah! Mpumalanga! One word I can use to describe it... "REFRESHING".
I've had the privilege of visiting this beautiful province twice and every time was a fresh encounter.
Situated in the East of South Africa, Mpumalanga reminds me of the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe. Mountainous, rich in Forestry and quiet!
I think of it as place to travel and clear your mind!

The perfect roadtrip doesn't exist? I beg to differ, Mpumalanga is the perfect place to road trip!

The mighty Table Mountain!
One of Cape Town's main and greatest attractions.

Ahhh Matopos! One of those "so far yet so near" experiences.
My paternal Roots are in the Matopos Range, but despite that, and the fact that Matopos National Park is only slightly over 20kms outside of Bulawayo CBD, I had never paid a visit to the National Park.
I suppose it was also clouded by the belief that there isn't much to do and much to see in Mamaland, Zimbabwe.
Boy was I wrong! Matopos has so much to offer. The wild life, the flora and fauna, the different types of rocks and their rock paintings, the dams, the picnic spots,THE VIEWS! and of course Rhodes' famous grave.
There is so much to do within the National Park from camping there, to game drives, or to having a simple family outing.

Nyanga, situated on the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe, has always been a popular travel destination in Zimbabwe. Despite having visited Nyanga at a tender age, I felt like I had never been there. I had a deep desire to return and visit the famous Troutbeck, Nyanga.

The opportunity presented itself and I'm sad to say, I was a tad bit underwhelmed by Troutbeck Nyanga. Don't get me wrong, I loved Nyanga as a whole. It was a dream come true. But Troutbeck, uhhhmm not what I expected.

But! And it's a big But! The highlight of my experience was visiting the World's View in Nyanga. The views from up there were spectacular but the cherry on top were the stone tablets with the distance to various places in Zimbabwe. You would have to see it for yourself to understand it.

I was Born and bred in the Sunshine City of Zimbabwe (Harare) and believe it or not, in my 27 years of life, I had never casually taken a stroll around the Unity Square or the CBD in general.
Last year September, my travel buddy and I took a trip to Zimbabwe, Harare to spend time with family. My travel buddy was adamant on walking around the CBD of Harare as she had done it in various other countries but not her birth country.
I didn't get the fuss at first, but eventually, I fully embraced the experience. Looking at the structure of buildings in Harare, watching the progress and also learning the history of certain landmarks.

Try it, take a walk around your CBD, and if you can, draw comparisons. Each country is a world of it's own kind.

I've always found it fascinating how I've traveled to 8 of the 9 provinces in South Africa, the country of my permanent residence, but had barely been to anywhere apart from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, my birth country.

Well that changed. In December 2022, we took a family trip to the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe. I got to experience the glorious Bvumba mountains and it's majestic views.
