The Divisions of Hijra as Mentioned by Al-Qurtubi:

1. Hijra as an Escape (الهجرة هربًا): This is divided into six categories:
o First: Leaving Dar al-Harb (the land of war) for Dar al-Islam. This was an obligation during the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and this obligation remains until the Day of Judgment. (What ceased with the conquest of Mecca was the obligation of going to the Prophet (peace be upon him) wherever he was. There is no longer a migration to the Prophet personally after the conquest of Mecca). Whoever remains in Dar al-Harb while being able to migrate is considered disobedient.
o Second: Leaving the land of Bid'ah (religious innovation). If a person cannot change an evil, they should move away from it. This is based on the verse: {And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversation. And if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not1 sit, after the reminder, with the wrongdoing people.} [Al-An'am: 68].
o Third: Leaving a land where unlawful things prevail (a place where sins and forbidden acts are widespread). Seeking lawful sustenance is an obligation for every Muslim.
o Fourth: Fleeing from harm to one's body (fear for one's physical safety). If a Muslim fears for their safety, God has permitted them to leave and flee.
o Fifth: Fear of disease in unhealthy lands and leaving them for healthier lands. The Prophet (peace be upon him) permitted shepherds who became ill in Medina to go to another area until they recovered.
o Sixth: Fleeing for fear of harm to one's wealth. The sanctity of a Muslim's wealth is like the sanctity of their blood, and the protection of one's family is even more important.

Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe, and the muhajir is the one who forsakes what Allah has forbidden" ( Sahih Al-Bukhari)

“Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves – [the angels] will say, ‘In what [condition] were you?’ They will say, ‘We were oppressed in the land.’ [The angels] will say, ‘Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?’ For those, their refuge is Hell – and evil it is as a destination” (Surah An-Nisa, 4:97).

Amr ibn Malik Al-Janbi narrated that he heard Fadala ibn Ubaid say:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"I guarantee—for anyone who believes in me, accepts Islam, and migrates—a house in the outskirts of Paradise and a house in the center of Paradise. And I guarantee—for anyone who believes in me, accepts Islam, and strives in the cause of Allah—a house in the outskirts of Paradise, a house in the center of Paradise, and a house in the highest chambers of Paradise. Whoever fulfills this has left no opportunity for good unpursued and no avenue of evil unavoided, and he may die wherever he wishes."

'Amr ibn al-'As narrated:
I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "Extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you." He extended his hand, but I withdrew mine. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "What is the matter, O 'Amr?" I said, "I want to stipulate something." He asked, "What do you want to stipulate?" I replied, "That I be forgiven." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do you not know that Islam wipes away what came before it, migration (Hijrah) erases what came before it, and Hajj removes all previous sins?"
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 121)
