Glorious day in the Great Langdale Valley yesterday ☀️

Matt was out guiding a couple visiting from the US on a fairly gentle route from Elterwater up into the valley - and it really goes to show you don’t always have to head into the hills to get gorgeous Lakeland scenery!

Crystal clear water, the craggy summits of the Langdale pikes, flowering meadows, and a quintessential Lake District pub to finish at () - a fantastic day out!

As well as being able to explore this area on a guided walk, it is also part of our ‘Heart of Lakeland’ self-guided walking holiday!

Our second social walk of the year was a gorgeous sunny day around Malham ☀️

We always plan our Malham walks to start fairly early to avoid the crowds, which worked perfectly on a sunny Sunday that had got pretty busy by the time the group returned to the village!

This fairly short 5 mile walk takes in loads of highlights, including Malham Cove from above and below and the impressive gorge at Gordale Scar - a real Dales classic!

Our next social walk is our ‘Bluebells and Boulders’ route from Clapham village on Thursday 8 May and there are a couple of spots left. The next weekend social walk is a Lake District one - the lovely ‘Ullswater, Gowbarrow and Aira Force’ circuit - on Saturday 17 May. Details and booking for both via link in bio and will add to stories today too!

Matt was in a sunny Malham yesterday doing a guided walk for a lovely family visiting from the US ☀️

This is such a great walk for people new to the Dales, with the stunning highlights of Janet’s Foss (a little gentle at the moment given all the good weather!), Gordale Scar and Malham Cove, as well as plenty of peaceful paths in between. And what a gorgeous day for it!

We have our group social walk around Malham this Sunday but it’s currently fully booked. We’re always happy to arrange private guided walks for families, groups, corporate trips etc, for people from near or far, though, so just drop us a line if you have any questions.

Our very first “Introduction to Navigation” day trial run! 😁

For some time we’ve been thinking about offering ‘Introduction to Navigation’ days for people who want to feel a bit more comfortable with map and compass, learn more about reading the landscape, develop new skills and just have a fun day out! So… Matt used me and a couple of friends as guinea pigs to test out his planned day in the gorgeous countryside around Austwick.

Even though the group were all very regular walkers, confident route planners and no strangers to map reading, we all came away feeling like we’d learned some really valuable lessons that could come in really handy if we ever found ourselves in a difficult situation out on a hike and, just as importantly, we had a great time!

Keep your eyes peeled for more info on our ‘nav days’ coming soon! 🥾🧭🗺️

(Perfect picnic spots - as seen in the first picture - guaranteed!!)

Is there anything more peaceful and relaxing than an evening walk in the sunshine in the Yorkshire Dales?! ☀️

We were out recently on one of the many sunny days we’ve been having to run over a short walk from West Witton, that we’re going to provide to people on our ‘Boutique Wensleydale’ walking holiday, so they have a lovely, gentle option for stretching their legs on the day they arrive in the Dales.

It starts from the The Wensleydale Heifer, which is the first hotel on our ‘Boutique Wensleydale’ holiday, and strolls down through meadows to the bank so of the River Ure. Some pretty riverside walking follows before looping around back up to the village on charming tracks with lovely views. A great way to begin a trip to the Yorkshire Dales .

The unbelievable weather at the weekend meant that, naturally, the Lake District was full to the brim… but we went exploring a beautiful little valley on the very eastern edge of the National Park, just off the M6!

Goes to show it’s always possible to avoid the crowds if you want to! 😀

Definitely a feeling of spring in the air in the Dales today - a gorgeous evening tonight on the slopes of Ingleborough, not even nearly dark at 6pm and if you have the sound on you can hear a curlew! 😍

Have you seen any lambs yet this year?!

I think there are quite a few popping up around the Dales now, but this one was our first spot of the year when we were on a walk near Patterdale in the Lake District on Friday.

It was the only lamb in a field of lots of sheep, so I imagine quite a few more will be joining it over the coming days!

Who says the short, easy walks can’t be the best?!

Matt was out in Arkengarthdale a couple of weeks ago enjoying some winter sun while doing this beautiful 4 mile circuit from The CB Inn.

This year we’ve decided to provide all our walking holiday customers with details of a short walk they can do if they want to stretch their legs on the day they arrive, and this is the one for our two routes through Swaledale and Arkengarthdale.

From the CB Inn it heads up Arkengarthdale through meadows and along the banks of Arkle Beck, then circles back to follow lanes and tracks along the bottom of the moor, with fantastic views down the valley all the way! A fantastic way to start your holiday!

Glad we managed to make the most of the beautiful wintery weather last week before everything changed! 🌧️💨

Our walk didn’t go quite as planned as the parking we were aiming for was a sheet of ice, so we quickly rejigged things and parked in Coniston for a gorgeous stroll up to the Coppermines.

It wasn’t a long walk but the whole area looked stunning, with streams partially frozen, icicles dripping off waterfalls and the mining remains covered with a pretty dusting of snow. We really wished we had time to keep going but will just have to wait for another snow day!
