The challenge is real! I think Hippos would be hard to count accurately due to their propensity to stay under water most of the time. I think Honey Badgers and Pangolins would be nearly impossible. And I think Dung Beetles would be the most fun to count! But that's me!

📋🦍🌍 Serengeti Census 2025: Counting the Uncountable 🌍🦍📋

After months of planning, thousands of census workers, and countless clipboards, the Serengeti Census Team has officially begun the world's most challenging population survey! 😄

Leading the operation is Chief Census Officer Gorilla, whose mission sounds simple:

✅ Count every animal.

The only problem?

The wildebeest keep migrating.
The zebras won't stand still.
The giraffes can see the forms before everyone else.
And nobody can agree whether the monkeys should be counted twice because they're everywhere.

Yet despite the chaos, the team continues its mission to better understand and protect one of the greatest wildlife ecosystems on Earth.

✨ Every creature counts, and every number tells a story.

👇 Which animal do you think would be the hardest to count accurately?

I am so pleased to repost this video from Conservation Warriors, a conservation organization that Rob was instrumental in creating — and one that he and I proudly support together.

Our colleague, Collins Ochumbe, leads this incredible organization with a mission to educate East Africa’s youth about the importance of their ecology, wildlife, and the opportunity — and responsibility — they have to protect it.

Together, we have several active initiatives underway, including a recent drive to provide new boots for the Rangers of the Maasai Mara. One of our safari groups helped make that possible, and I want to say thank you again to everyone who contributed.

Other ongoing initiatives include tree-planting efforts to help reforest national parks and preserves, teaching and coaching rangers in first aid and life-saving techniques, outfitting them with first-aid and medic kits, and exploring the best ways to promote biofencing — the practice of installing beehives around crop fields to deter elephants from destroying crops while also helping pollinate them.

It is a beautiful win/win: protecting communities, supporting farmers, helping elephants, and strengthening the fragile relationship between people and wildlife.

And there is so much more to come.

Rob, I, and Wanderful Tanzania are proud to stand beside Conservation Warriors and grateful for the work they are doing on the ground every day.

Just got back from 4 amazing safaris! Tons to share in the days to come! Stay tuned!
