The EMB-110 Bandeirante is a light transport, twin-engine turboprop aircraft designed by Embraer as a general-purpose aircraft for military and civil use. It was customized to suit a variety of roles and operator requirements including aerial observation, maritime patrol, and search and rescue missions. It was outfitted with a pressurized cabin and able to accommodate up to 18 seats as a passenger carrier.
The aircraft is widely used to carry freight, especially on regional routes where larger jets are less practical. Its cargo-hauling capabilities are one of its biggest strengths, particularly for short- to medium-range routes with smaller payloads. It includes a large cargo door on the left side of the aircraft aft of the wing for easy loading and unloading of bulky cargo. The interior cargo area has a flat, unobstructed floor to accommodate pallets, pallet boxes, packages, light industrial parts, and a variety of express mail.
Its powerful turboprop engines are key to its short takeoff and landing capabilities and make it more than a match for operations in rugged, underdeveloped areas with limited infrastructure. Its modular design makes field repairs and overhauls easy and fast, which is a big plus for field operations and mechanics dedicated to working in remote areas.
