3 years ago, I launched at JFK airport on my way to Madrid! My 6-week solo backpacking trip that summer was the best time of my life. And it set in motion profound changes in my ability to joyfully navigate and experience the world – abroad and at home.
The experience taught me the importance of giving your full attention to the present moment. Without paying attention to what’s around us, we can’t possibly delight in foreign cultures, foods, and adventures. We can’t learn the essential lessons about ourselves that travel brings to us. And we won’t stumble on incredible sunsets, or meet our future romantic partners in hostels 🇫🇷 if we’re staring down at our phones.
So, for the three year anniversary of Chasing Joy Travel, I decided to write about the importance of mindfulness abroad. I want to share the practices that help me live in the moment and give all of my attention to the beauty around me when I’m trying to make every minute count. I’m certainly not perfect at it – but the things I’ve done to help me live in the moment have transformed my life.
