Brooke and I loved our time in Hickory, NC! While we were there, we visited as many local spots as we possibly could thanks to the help of !

I wanted to share some of those favorite spots to check out with you, so come back each day to check out my latest story that will highlight something unique offered in the area!

Public Lands PSA: Don’t park where you aren’t supposed to!

As I was arriving back at my car after a hike on the Endless Wall Trail this morning, I came across this situation… Cars parked all over the parking area in places where they weren’t supposed to be, including in spots reserved for emergency vehicles!

People, I understand that you’ve heard how amazing this trail, and I encourage you to check it out if you get the chance! But if you didn’t get there early enough to find a parking spot, don’t make one up that will cause issues for other visitors! There are plenty of other incredible trails in the area that you can visit, just go somewhere else!

This is meant to shame people or try to discourage people from experiencing these beautiful lands. Instead, it’s to encourage you to explore responsibly! If that means finding another trail, that’s ok! Wake up earlier the next morning to give it another shot!

Please love these areas and also the other people who are there to visit! If you are new to the outdoor world, welcome! If you have any questions about how to travel responsibly, reach out or ask a local!

We want everyone to feel welcomed and supported outside, but we also want to help teach how that is done in the right way.

Travel Gear Recommendation: Weekender Inflatable Paddle Boards

You may have noticed that Brooke and I have been paddling quite a bit lately, and that’s for good reason: being on the water is FUN!

SUP (stand up paddle boarding) is one of the fastest growing water sports right now because of how easy it is to get into it! It also makes for a great workout or a relaxing way to soak up some vitamin d!

You can rent boards at many popular lakes, rivers, and the ocean, but this can cost anywhere from $50 to $100 per day! But if it’s something that you are really interested in getting into, I’d recommend looking at paddle boards!

It is easy to find high quality paddle boards that cost $1000+ or some incredibly cheap ones at Costco or Walmart that may last you for a season or two before showing signs of wear.

But Retrospec has done an excellent job of making a great quality kit for as low as $200! This is what Brooke and I got, and we have taken these bad boys on the river in Richmond, VA. They’ve travelled with us to Orlando to explore the local freshwater springs. They’ve floated past the Biltmore Estate on the French Broad River. Now, they’ve paddled along side steep cliffs on Summersville Lake near Fayetteville, WV!

If paddle boarding is something you just want to try once, then renting is the way to go. If you want to make it a more regular part of your hobbies, please check out this company! You won’t be disappointed!

Today is the 160th anniversary of West Virginia’s statehood!

Is there a better way to celebrate this wonderful state than by going on a white water trip with ?? Of course not!

West Virginia is the perfect spot to visit for anybody who loves nature and history, or for those who are looking for a more budget-friendly adventure!
