Our cities have many layers, and the diversity of is vast. You could spend an entire year exploring our great Province and only cover a fraction of the landscape. Want to go for a hike or paddle? We got that. Feel like going for a ride on horseback, motorcycle or mountain bike? We got that too. And, if you're drawn to the unique under-represented narratives of cultural diversity, have we got the thing for you.
In honour of Black History Month, is a collection of hybrid games you can play from the comfort of your mobile device. These games have been developed by business, research, and tourism students from local and to offer you a relevant, rewarding, and practical opportunity to explore human struggle and success in Southern and  Southwest Ontario.
It works like this. Follow the narrative. Find the locations. Answer the questions. Collect the points. Anyone can play this games, but only points get you prizes.

BRAVE THE ELEMENTS ▪︎ This year I'll be piloting the craft into unknown waters. Metaphorically and physically. Preparing for the storms that will most certainly come, and the calm conditions that require patience and gratitude.
As part of this preparation, I've been leaning into the uncommon narratives of early explorers like Leif, Hatuey, Matthew Henson, Ponce, Marco, and Jacques. Searching for their common attributes. And, what I've discovered is that they were masterful specialists, intelligent, loyal, intrepid, and principled.
Their stories have inspired hundreds of hours of effort and research. Scrubbing and repairing a 50 year old sailboat. In truth, not the most glamorous job I've ever had. But, as they say, if you love what you do, then it never feels like work.
What it feels like is a re-energized sense of purpose as I enter the 'Realm-of-Sandwich'. That shadowy place
where the sphere of influence and order-of-operation becomes a bit more complex. The period in a person's life where they have aging parents and growing kids.
This has motivated me to take giant steps. To build something awesome. A legacy project that leverages tech  to provide everyone with a home-court advantage and genuine sense-of-belonging.
Because, despite the expressions of mass media's talking heads, DEI is not dead . DEI is a mushroom-like mindset pushing through the pavement of status quo. A status quo which demonstrates that the majority of society is willing to live with their problems rather than fix them.
DEI is an initialism of three separate words, of which only two can become a verb. Therein lies the rub. How do we create actionable opportunities for everyone to
experience the interconnected value of multiculturalism? I believe we've found a solution.

PROVISIONED FOR COMFORT | Imagine you were planning a trip to an unknown destination. A town or city. For business, leisure, or personal reasons. What would be your first step? Would your first concern be the climate, or the lodging? Are you checking the exchange rate, or the quality of the beaches? Whatever the case, I'll always wish you a comfortable journey.
There's an energy that connects us when we travel. And, quite often the steps we take to get from A to B are largely the same. Plane, train, or automobile. The primary objective is always to travel as safely, efficiently, and respectfully as possible. So, why should learning about different culture be any different.
Welcome to hashtag . A collection of three games in Toronto. Each game is a beta version in development by business, research, and tourism students from local colleges and universities. The bells and whistles will come later. Right now, our aim is to be relevant and rewarding.
is an engaging and practical way to explore Toronto's , , and + community. Get in the game.

A STATUS SYMBOL | Are you ready for 2025?! Are you ready for a valuable new opportunity to explore the world within your city? I am. And, perhaps this time I'll take another shot at the red pill.  So, let's start with a review. A quick backward glance and asking the right will always help us achieve the best answers. Tried and true. Scientific and effective.
Take a moment to consider this. In your opinion, what is the 'greatest' of all status symbols? Cars, jewelry, houses, physical health, financial wealth, or is it something else for you? Remember, answer honestly. And, you can only pick one thing.
For me, the of status symbols is 'knowledge'. The authentic kind that gets your hands dirty. Wisdom gleaned through experiential learning and torn jeans. Priceless and non-perishable. And, it's this knowledge and applied wisdom that affords us the ability to connect the dots, adapt to unusual circumstance, and confidently navigate the unknown.
For the past few days, my heads been stuck in the of a 48 year old sailboat. Inspecting. Learning. Planning. Avoiding the boxing week circus tents. Yet, I've found myself whistling the refrain of my preferred Rodgers and Hammerstein holiday song. "Brown paper packages tied up with string. Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings. These are a few of my favourite things."
The earth will spin with or without money. This post is about the value of this lesson. This post is about your next great adventure. The trip inward. This is about . Get ready to play the game.

ACCURACY OF OBSERVATION |  Only a few more days remaining in 2024, and what you see in this pic is a chart of hundreds of hours and days. The road behind us. Colour coded to make the prevailing narrative seem way less boring. A reminder that it's important to move with the terrain but stay on course. Steer the ship.
For the past few years I've produced Gantt charts. Printed and taped into a twelve foot scroll. It helps to keep me organized while providing a tactical reference that can only be truly appreciated in retrospect. Like mapping the shoreline on an familiar body of water. So you can make your way back. And, so that others may follow.
It's a great analog tool. Portable. Stick-the-wall-able. Like a piece of unfinished art. The best place to record thoughts in real time. A chart. A guide. Somewhere to make footnotes on success and ambition. Fortis fortuna juvat. To all the entrepreneurs, investors, professionals, and students in my network: 2025 will be yours. Stay focused. Go get it.

MIND THE GAP ▪︎ When I was young , every morning before he left for work, my father would ask me ‘what are you creating today?”  And, many years later, from the moment my eyes open to the early hours, I ask myself the same question. Here’s the simplified answer.
Over two decades ago, I created a business that built upon my work with organizations like the Canadian Red  Cross, University of Toronto, and TMU. The process and product of this business helped improve my cultural literacy, fill knowledge gaps, and connect the dots of history and heritage. At the time, I was curious about the function of society and the dark arts of landmark government decisions.
In short, I created a business to help resolve my own cognitive bias while exploring the characteristics of entitlement, and the assumptions that drive status quo. What I discovered along the way is the existence of an ancient thread that connects us to the consequences of our combined heritage. Here’s a snap shot of what resonates for me;
1834 - Slavery in Canada abolished.
1876 - Indian Act created in Canada.
1914/18 – WWI 90 million people lost
1922 - Women legally declared persons in Canada.
1939/45 - WWII
1965 - Malcolm X assassinated.
1968 - Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated.
1969 - Homosexuality decriminalized in Canada.
1985 - Indian Act abolished in Canada.
1990 - Apartheid abolished in South Africa.
1992 - Los Angeles riots spurred by the Rodney King verdict.
2006 – Wikileaks founded by Julian Assange.
2008 - Canada apologizes for Indian residential school system.
2008 – First Black President of the United States elected.
2013 – Eric Snowden arrives, and Nelson Mandela departs.
2019 - Global pandemic lockdown.
2020 - George Floyd.
2021 - First Person-of-Colour appointed to Supreme Court of Canada.
2022 - First Black Ontario Supreme Court Justice appointed.
2024 - Still no presumption in Canadian divorce law giving fathers automatic 50% custody of their children.
Somewhere in all of this there are stories of inspiration
that you haven’t yet heard. Stories that may be just the nudge you need to get the most value out of hindsight.

TIME WELL SPENT ▪︎ Nothing comes easy. And, anything worth having takes a bit of struggle to achieve. Sounds clichè but it's true. Lavjot spent hundreds of hours on our platform, researching, wordsmithing, and preparing a near perfect game experience. We begin this process by learning new tech before diving into achieving proficiency with story-telling. We're looking forward to growing our next team of cultural influencers.

WHAT WE'VE LEARNED | I tried to build a business that makes a difference in people’s lives. And, in turn, my business would help to measurably improve urban society. This journey started many years ago with the hypothesis that rapid environmental change and cultural isolation leads
to high levels of stress.
My intuition told me that this endeavour wouldn’t be easy. Most rapid change and cultural isolation is associated sensitive and abstract emotion. Thus, in order to manage this risk, it was decided to blend gamification with story-telling and remain constantly surrounded by an intelligent cast of characters.
This is Ray, one of our game creators and elite intern from . His mission was to use our tech to explore and share a narrative of Georgetown . Together we learned that the best place to start building his game is by celebrating the success of others.
The Urban Guide (TUG) offers self-guided games and city tours that strengthen the cultural connection. We’re knowledge brokers who blend panoptic story-telling with gamification to help people discover more about the cities where they live and visit.
