Day 7 on the Viking Mississippi, we arrived back in New Orleans, with a full day and overnight for exploring the city.

In the morning we took the complimentary shuttle to the Garden District where we explored the neighborhood on our own, enjoying a cafe au lait while viewing the impressive homes.

Back to our ship, lunch in the restaurant included Cajun Cobb salad and lobster Mac and cheese.

On the included tour, we spent the afternoon touring around New Orleans by bus, with extended stops at the St. Louis cemetery # 3, and the New Orleans art museum in a gorgeous park.

The evening entertainment was the Victory Belles — entertainers from the World War II museum.

Day 6 on the Viking Mississippi was a visit to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The docking location is unique- it’s through a former casino riverboat.

The included tour of Baton Rouge was terrific— a visit to the state capital complex. We explored the state capitol building—the tallest in the U.S.— and took the elevator to the observation deck for an incredible view. We also visited the state museum in the same area. Later, as we toured around Baton Rouge, we stopped at LSU football stadium to see Tiger Mike.

It was a beautiful weather day from sunrise to sunset.

Day 2 on the Viking Mississippi in Darrow, Louisiana. Houmas House and Gardens on the included tour, then Sugarfield Spirits Distillery on optional tour. Sugarcane is the major crop in the area.
