Sri Muthukumaran Institute of Technology was established in 1996 by the order of Govt. Now, the college is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. SMIT is managed by Sri Muthukumaran Education Trust (SMET).The members of the Trust are eminent personalities various walks of life such as Education, Research, Industry, and Administration. Our college provides courses in six branches of engineering at
the undergraduate level and three specialized streams at the post graduate level in addition to the MCA & MBA programme. Ample open spaces with shady trees add to the aesthetic beauty of the campus and entice the students to learn. The vast college campus has a well- planned network of blocks of various facilities, a well-stocked library and reading halls, classrooms, well-equipped laboratories and playgrounds. ”Quality in Education” is our motto. At the same time, we ensure that our students move beyond their classrooms for an all-round personal development. Our aim is to offer our students with awakening and instigating experience, which will help to enhance their knowledge, personality development, individual discipline, spiritual and moral values and also social awareness. We intend for Quality in Education as we march forward to achieve our goal by motivating our students to be highly competent and confident. The SMIT IEEE student branch came into existence in the year 2008. Adinarayan was the founding chair who very efficiently portrayed IEEE and helped a number of students to join the largest professional body of Engineers. The affinity group of "women in engineering also started off in the same year.The baton was handed over to Dinesh kumar in the year 2009, a competent leader who organised events making students interested to join IEEE ,thus increasing the student base. The student branch became enthusiastically active during the year 2010 when Karthik served as the chairman. Many innovative events took shape to built an efficient student branch.This leverage by Karthik, helped Harikrishnan, the chairman in the year 2011 to mark the golden year of IEEE, where our student branch won the "The best student branch awards" for two consecutive years. Sharath kumar held the office in the year 2012 where initiation of new societies were called for and the present chairman Balaji along with his team heading the office in 2013, have tremendously contributed and have formed two societies - computer society and communication society.Their brilliant work is in progress to create wonders in future.
