“The truth is, the brain-eating amoeba is very commonly found during the summer months in warm freshwater lakes, rivers, and hot springs. Fortunately, brain infections from the amoeba are very rare, but unfortunately, nearly always fatal. It's a truth that all people need to be aware of and take precautions to prevent infection, just like taking precautions in lakes and rivers by wearing a lifejacket to prevent drowning. The difference however, is that nose plugs are what is needed when swimming in these waters warm freshwaters. The amoeba enters the brain via water that goes up into the nose. It is not the fault or responsibility of any local, state, or federal agency to police the waters for the amoeba, which typically lives in the soil. :(“
